Happy New Year! I always find the start of a new year exciting and am looking forward to see what 2017 brings!

We are offering a variety of new courses this year and with the help of the Canada-Alberta Job Grant it's easier than ever to get the training you need. Make 2017 a year to advance and refresh your professional skills!

Professional Courses:
(Core Course) This course will guide you through the key elements of the regulatory environment governing workplace safety.

These engaging seminars will provide you will with the tools you need to start creating change within your organization. You will take away practical, realistic and down-to-earth information that is easy to apply in the workplace right away.
This series of 4 courses will help you learn to build positive relationships, turn negative situations into win-win, learn tools and techniques that allow you to effectively deal with negative or stressful situations, and assist you in learning how to communicate more successfully in any situation. Registration deadline: Feb 4
This introduction to theories and practices of health and safety programs in the workplace includes the recognition, evaluation, and control hazards. Registration Deadline: Feb 2

General Interest Courses:
Taught by a published author, this class will focus on practical issues and techniques such as characterization, plot control, setting and dialogue.
Ages 7-14. Students will prepare a short drama adaptation of "Charlotte's Web" based on the popular children's novel by E.B. White. The performance will be held on April 1st during the last hour of class. Each child will have a role and some dance will be incorporated into the production. Memory work will be required. Also, some props will be made by the children to be used in show.
Ready for a fun, upbeat and exciting dance class? In this Latin fusion dance class you will be learning two dances, the Salsa and the Samba. This class is perfect for beginners!
Ages 9+. Get ready to explore your creative side with a variety of art materials and styles! All artistic levels are welcome. We will discover the basics of keeping a sketchbook, Abstract Expressionism, Artist Trading Cards and so much more. We will even go on a special visit to the historic Medalta Potteries.
Immerse yourself in Hispanic culture and learn the basics of this language. This course is designed for everyone, whether you're going to a Spanish-speaking country, addicted to Spanish films or telenovela, or just interested in learning another language. No previous experience in Spanish is necessary.

Professional Courses:
In this one-day course, students will learn to recognize and provide interventions for life-threatening emergencies until medical aid arrives. Topics include: CPR and choking for adults, shock and unconsciousness, severe bleeding, wound care, major medical conditions, and AED training and certification.
This two-day course covers all the skills in Emergency First Aid plus first aid for other injuries and illnesses including head and spinal injuries, fractures of the upper and lower limbs. This course includes Level C CPR training and certification (Adult, Child, Infant, and 2-rescuer resuscitation) and AED training and certification.
These engaging seminars will provide you will with the tools you need to start creating change within your organization. You will take away practical, realistic and down-to-earth information that is easy to apply in the workplace right away.

Legal Office Assistant Certificate
This program prepares students for an entry level position as a Legal Assistant. Legal Assistants are responsible for keeping files organized, monitoring calendars, meeting deadlines and inputting information into databases among other duties. A Legal Assistant plays an important role in a law office and must be computer literate, have the ability to multi-task in an accurate and efficient manne,r and possess strong communication skills (both oral and written).
The certificate program consists of the following courses:
* Keyboarding/Skillbuilding I
* Microsoft Word Levels 1A &1B
* Microsoft Word Levels 2 & 3
Following the successful completion of all required courses, students will be granted a personalized Certificate of Completion.

Canada-Alberta Job Grant is now accessible to more employers!
Responding to what employers asked for, the number of training hours required to qualify for the Canada-Alberta Job have been lowered. As of Monday, April 18, 2016, training programs that are a minimum of 21 hours in length will be considered for funding. Applications signed and submitted on or after April 18 will be processed according to the new requirement.
If you are a private or not-for-profit organization you are eligible to receive a job grant for training from the government that will cover 2/3 of your training costs!
Details:
Canada-Alberta Job Grant reimburses up to 2/3 of your training cost - up to $10,000 per individual.
Grant is employer driven. Employers are responsible for identifying the skills and employee needs and submitting the online forms.
Training must be a minimum of 21 hours but this can include multiple courses being bundled to equal that amount of time.
Training can be e-learning, part-time, full-time, on-site or in a classroom and must result in a form of credential.
Employee must be a new or existing employee that will fill current or future job vacancies.
In order to receive the grant you must apply one month before the course starts.
