JANUARY 2017

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Rethinking New Year Resolutions

New Year goals tend to focus on things we want to improve about ourselves; a great aspiration. However, have you thought about goals that reach beyond yourself that could benefit others? Perhaps you have an idea that could possibly change the world! Each one of us has the capacity to change the world around us or the world at large. You could be the writer of the next bestseller, or come up with a great invention, create a masterpiece, invent new technology or as a lover of astronomy discover the next planet. Think beyond yourself to the bigger things that might just change the world.

Some men see things as they are and say, "Why?" I dream of  things
that  never were and say, "Why not?"  - George Bernard Shaw

On This Day in History
Nixon ushered in a policy of fuel conservation and rationing not seen since World War II.
FUEL CONSERVATION

On this day in history, January 2, 1974, President Nixon signed the Emergency Highway Energy Conservation Act, setting a new national maximum speed limit of 55 mph. The act was intended to force Americans to drive at speeds deemed more fuel-efficient. The president was responding to OPEC quadrupling oil prices in 1973, which placed a choke hold on consumers and industries.  The embargo had a global impact, sending the U.S. and European economies into  recession.

Collaborating to Bring Hope & Joy
TIME WELL SPENT

Find out some of the GREAT ways Summit partnered with various organizations and non-profits during the holiday season to make a difference in the lives of others.

The Colorado Springs office staff spent time  at  Christmas Unlimited (one of Pikes Peak regions oldest charities) helping families in need to obtain toys for their children for Christmas. Staff also volunteered at  Hope & Home   writing the names of foster children on stockings for foster families. The staff also donated new toys to  Hope & Home. Staff enjoyed helping & come alongside parents to help bring their children joy.
T he Lakewood office held a movie event & attendees were asked to donate a toy/gift to Providence Networka 501(c) helping those
suffering from addictions, abuse & homelessness. The office staff also volunteered at Samaritan's Purse packing toys & other items into shoe boxes for children in Mexico. Both of these efforts were greatly rewarding knowing others would experience the joy of these gifts.
The Lone Tree office  staff also volunteered at Samaritan's Purse packing  toys & other items into shoe boxes headed to children in Mexico. At holiday time this great organization sends thousands of shoe boxes to children all over the world. Operation Christmas Child was born out of a desire to bring joy & the message of good news at Christmas time. Staff had a great time working together on this project to bring joy to the heart of many children.
The Madison & Meridian, MS & Memphis, TN offices joined forces and met at the Salvation Army in Jackson, MS, to help put together items for delivery to needy
families enrolled in the Angel Tree Program. The purpose of the program is to provide less fortunate children and seniors gifts and necessities during the holiday season. Staff enjoyed being together to give of their time to such a worthwhile project.Staff
