Trinity Tidbits-Week of Epiphany 4
TOTH logo
Good friends,
I hope you are having a blessed week thus far.  If you are reading this, you have reason to celebrate: you are indeed alive.  Breath fills your lungs, and you yet have the capacity to do some good this week.  As we are nearing the end of the Season after Epiphany, and Ash Wednesday inches ever closer, I have a request for you.  Pause for 5 minutes, and use that breath in your lungs as a focus for meditating on the goodness and graciousness of God.  Begin now to discern what God is calling you to lay down and take up during Lent.  I will be in prayer for you, as I hope you are in prayer for me.
    Peace, Chris
The Very Rev. Christopher M. Adams
Rector, Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church
Dean, Northeast Deanery
of the Diocese of the Rio Grande
TOTH has participated in this event for 25 years.  Please bring some cash with you to church THIS Sunday to fill the soup pot on your way to the communion rail.   This is to remind us that there are millions around the world who are literally starving, and indeed there are many hungry folks in our own community, while many of us will be feasting on all sorts of snacks while watching the NFL Super Bowl game on TV.  LA Cares distributes up to 90 or more food boxes each month, and helps desparate families in other ways.  Our Souper Bowl offering will go 100% to them, along with the food items you bring for First Sunday Food Sunday.   Following is a list of things they always need:
  • Anything gluten free
  • Vegetarian soups & food items
  • Juice in plastic bottles
  •  Canned peas and mixed vegetables,
  • Soups - tomato, Amy's soups, hearty (Progresso)
  • Canned chicken
  • Canned baked beans (not pork & beans)
  • Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee raviolio's, spaghetti sauce
  • Tuna and Hamburger Helpers
  • Bath soap bars
  • School snacks:  granola bars, mac & cheese in individual cups, pudding cups, cheese & crackers
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!  A few of your fellow parishioners have asked about other ways we can help our local food bank, LA Cares, besides the monthly First Sunday Food Sunday offering.  It turns out they could REALLY use help sorting food  and other donations in their borrowed warehouse.  So we have agreed to do this from 5 - 8 pm  ("open house" style, come and leave as your schedule permits) on Wednesday, February 21 and Wednesday, March 28.  All are welcome!  The more hands we have the more we can accomplish.   Watch for more information in the Tidbits and Sunday bulletins.
The Domestic Violence Task Force of Los Alamos is sponsoring a collection of needed items for the family & women's shelters of our area.  Donations will be given to:
Community Against Violence in Taos, Esperanza Shelter in Santa Fe, and Crisis Center of Northern New Mexico in Espanola.  A box is in the Narthex for the following needed  items:
  • Towels/washcloths
  • Toiletries (including hygiene)
  • New Pillows
  • Blankets (gently used)
  • Underwear/socks
  • Diapers (all sizes)
Parishioners have donated well over 200 calendars for this collection and all are appreciated!   We have sent them on their way and are no longer accepting them.  Please recycle them!
How do Fellowship Dinners work?
You get to know new church members, and you get to know old ones better, too. You know-the ones you see often at church and wish you had more time to talk to? With fellowship dinners, families are grouped into sets of six or eight. Once a month (or whatever schedule everybody in the group chooses), one family hosts a dinner in their home and provides the entrée. Other families come and provide appetizers, salad, and dessert (or, again, any other combination you choose). This process rotates until each family has had a turn in their own home.
When will the Fellowship Dinners begin?
Fellowship Dinners should begin just after Easter.
Can I bring my children?
That decision will be up to the group to which you are assigned.
How do I sign up?
A signup poster will be posted soon in the Narthex. But if you have further questions, you can always call or text me.
I'm really looking forward to getting us (re)started!
Lisa Rothrock
The Next Smith's Bucks order is due NEXT Tuesday, February 6th
Kroger, the parent company for Smith's gives TOTH a percentage of your dollars when you load up cash value one of their gift cards ordered through TOTH. You get your full dollar value on your card! Smith's Bucks card users have noticed that these cards work easier at the register than any other payment method!
If you don't have a card yet, just put a check in the plate on Sunday or bring it by the office by Tuesday noon and write "Smith's Bucks new card" on the memo line. We'll order you a card and let you know when it arrives (usually by Friday). When you reload your card, the funds usually appear on the card on Thursday of the same week.
The next deadlines for Smith's orders are on the Tuesdays during the week immediately after LANL paydays: Feb. 6 and 20; March 6 and 20.
Mark your calendars! Thank you for your participation!

Feast of John Bosco          (January 31)
Priest - 1888
L oving God, who tenderly cares for children and orphans: Fill us with love like that shown forth in the witness of John Bosco, that we may give ourselves completely to your service and to the salvation of all; through your Son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.
Fr. Chris Adams named Dean of Northeast
Bishop Michael L. Vono, D.D., announces the appointment of Fr. Christopher Adams as Dean of the Northeast Area Deanery effective January 24, 2018. This will be a three-year appointment.

Fr. Adams serves as the Rector of Trinity on the Hill in Los Alamos, New Mexico.  Prior to moving to Los Alamos in the summer of 2015, he served congregations in North Carolina.  He is married to Karen Proctor-Adams, a wonderful wife and mother with a keen eye for photography.  Together, they are parents to Jude Adams, a 5-year-old ball of joy and enthusiasm.
Christopher received his M.Div. from Duke Divinity School in 2010 and a Post-Graduate Diploma from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2013. He is passionate about liturgy, evangelism, and the mothers and fathers of the Early Church. In his spare time, Christopher enjoys hiking, reading comic books, and all things Star Wars.  He is very much looking forward to serving as the Dean of the Northeast Deanery, and asks your prayers for his ministry.

Fr. Adams succeeds the Very Rev. Mike Olsen, Rector of St. James Episcopal Church in Taos. Fr. Olsen announced his resignation as dean via email, writing: "Yesterday at the Diocesan Council, with Bishop Vono's concurrence and support,  I tendered my resignation as the Dean of the NE Deanery.  As many of you know my wife's Parkinson's Disease has progressed much faster than we expected.  Supporting her requires that I limit my time away from Taos which does not allow me to adequately serve as you Dean."

Bishop Vono requests the Diocese keep Fr. Mike and his wife Sandy in your prayers.
