Brrr...it's cold!
First Church News & Updates - January 6, 2017

"Panis Angelicus", January 1, 2017
We hope your new year is off to a great start. After some unusually warm days, the more seasonable cold weather is back. Bundle up and enjoy your weekend. We hope to see you in worship on Sunday!

Jennifer Harvill, our children's choral director, sang "Panis Angelicus" last Sunday. It was beautiful! Enjoy it again today.

Enjoy this First Church news.
This week in worship...
Sermon Series
Sermon Series: You the Body
Each of us has a God-given set of gifts and talents that allows us to uniquely make a difference for Christ in the world. But the greatness of those gifts and talents is seen only in combination with the gifts and talents of those around us as the Body of Christ. How can we as First Church make our best mark for Christ in 2017 individually and corporately?

Sermon Title: "A Singular Sensation"

Scripture:   1 Corinthians 12:12 - 20

Dr. Will Cotton will preach at the 8:30 and 11 am services. Rev. Katie Meek will preach at the 9:40 am CrossRoads service.   The Source , our weekly devotional guide, is available on the church website .

Please join us in worship this Sunday at  8:30 am (Sanctuary), 9:40 am (FLC), or 11 am (Sanctuary).
Words from Will...
A New Year's Word of Thanksgiving
Tina and I have been amazingly blessed by the love and generosity of the people of First Church during this Advent and Christmas season! We are several pounds heavier thanks to the many who prepared
Dr. Will Cotton
delicious meals for us following Tina's knee replacement (which continues to recover ahead of
schedule). We are several steps advanced in our walk with Christ, thanks to your prayers, wisdom and encouragement. Over our first six months with you, you have drawn us into your love and fellowship in ways we could never repay. We saw the candles lit in all our services on Christmas Eve and counted it a privilege to light ours next to yours.

The year 2016 finished well - thanks to the participation and generosity of each of you. All our mission obligations were paid in full! We now anticipate what God will be up to in 2017. Like most years it will have a surprise or two. But what will not be a surprise is that God is ready to bless our shoes off - just ask Moses! Read Exodus 3, if that joke passed you by.

God  Bless You richly in this Blessed and Holy New Year - blessed and holy because God and you are in it.

Sincerely in Christ,
Will Cotton Signature

Thinking about joining First Church? Join us for Welcome Home.
Welcome Home is an informal meal and conversation with First Church pastors about membership...membership expectations, how the church is meant to help us live out our faith, our church's story, and other topics guided by a Q&A. It is also a wonderful way to meet others who are exploring as well.  Near the end of the session, there will be a short joining ceremony for those who decide to become a member. A meal will be served at this relaxed and informative event.  Click here to register...

Good Stewardship...Make the Connection
In the spirit of New Year's resolutions, everyone is encouraged to help First Church conserve energy by turning off lights in meeting rooms when rooms are not in use. Everyone is also encouraged to close meeting room doors to keep the cool air inside the room and the humidity outside (or warm air inside when it is cold outside). Thank you for helping First Church be a good steward of its resources in the New Year!
