Children’s Backpack Ministry
We are in our Fourth year of packing food for school children who don’t get balanced meals on weekends.
Kids can’t learn when they’re hungry.

Our Saint Stephen family supports 13 students every week.

Please continue helping us fill the Backpacks with canned vegetables, canned meats (i.e. chicken, vienna sausages, beef stew, canned ravioli or spaghetti), canned fruit, rice crispy treats, pudding cups, healthy snack bars and other items that are listed on colorful sheets at the entrances of the church.
If you would like to learn more about this all parish project, contact Sally Fortier at

PADS Help Needed
Providing Advocacy, Dignity and Shelter
Every Friday evening from October through April
St. Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown Des Plaines opens its doors to feed and shelter the homeless through a program known as PADS.
This shelter needs your help .
We are in need of groups who will cook, serve the meal, and provide some breakfast and lunch supplies. Generally the cost is about $300 per Friday. In the past Guilds, the St. Paul Men’s Club, some families, as well as a book club have volunteered. If you have volunteered in the past or are interested in getting a group together and committing to help, or just get more information, please contact Kristen Graack via email:
