Executive Director's Corner
Dear MANS Member Schools, Staff, Colleagues, and Friends:

I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples. -Saint Teresa of Calcutta

MANS Public Policy Day is March 9, 2017. It is a great opportunity to join with your colleagues from across the state in Lansing and impact education policy on behalf of your school and the children that you educate. We will be making legislative visits again this year. It is your chance to let your voice be heard.

Registration is now open, so please register right away.

There appears to be a change in the air - particularly in Washington D.C. - but also in Lansing where we welcome 43 new faces into the House of Representatives. There is great opportunity to share the value of faith-based education with a new set of policymakers as well as reminding the "old-timers" of the critical role that non-public schools play in Michigan's education landscape.

MANS was founded forty plus years ago to work on education policy issues and to make a real impact on the lives of students and families in Michigan. Its power resides in the collective work of the constituencies that comprise MANS namely Catholic Schools, Christian Schools International and the Schools of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.  Working together, casting stones across the waters, we can begin to make changes on how parents and families are respected and supported, how state policy can be enacted for all children no matter where they attend school and creating opportunities for all students to achieve at the highest level, reaching their full potential.

Sincerely,

MANS Executive Director

National School Choice Week - Januar 22-28, 2017
Join the national efforts to support school choice! National School Choice Week is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on great schools like yours. The goal of National School Choice Week (NSCW) is to raise public awareness of all types of education options for children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling. To meet this goal, NSCW encourages schools, organizations, and individuals to hold positive events that celebrate school choice options, while drawing attention to the need for even greater opportunities for children.

MANS, the Michigan Catholic Conference, and other groups are co-hosting  a National School Choice Week event on January 27, 2017 from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History in Detroit. Celebrate school choice with special guest speaker Dr. Steve Perry, founder and principal of Capital Preparatory Magnet School, Best-Selling Author, Education Contributor for CNN and MSNBC. Dear Master for this coming year
Just one request I bring:
I do not pray for happiness,
Or any earthly thing-
I do not ask to understand
The way Thou leadest me,
But this I ask: Teach me to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.

I want to know Thy guiding voice,
To walk with Thee each day.
Dear Master make me swift to hear
And ready to obey.
And thus the year I now begin
A happy year will be-
If I am seeking just to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.
