Hope: A Pessimist's Guide - A class for  millennials.  Join others your age to view a video and talk about reasons for hope in a world that often feels hopeless. This challenging and inspiring eight-part series takes on this difficult question. Darkwood Brew's Dr. Eric Elnes is joined by noted author Scott Russell Sanders, who wrote the book Hunting for Hope, that draws inspiration from unconventional sources of hope, which include Wildness, Body, Fidelity, and Simplicity. Unpack the reality that hope is a viable force in our world, and explore ways to harness its energy for a better future. Led by Eric Smoot and meeting in room 6.
The Adult Bible Study - Using the International Bible Lessons curriculum this class engages in stimulating discussion that explores the biblical message and how to apply it to daily life. Meets in the Parlor.

Weekday Opportunities

Tuesday at 7 PM - The Cup of Life (See above for description).
Wednesday at 10 AM - Breathing Under Water - We are all addicted in some way. When we learn to identify our addiction, embrace our brokenness, and surrender to God, we begin to bring healing to ourselves and our world. In Breathing Under Water, Richard Rohr shows how the gospel principles in the twelve steps can free anyone from any addiction. This can be from an obvious dependence on alcohol or drugs to the more common but less visible addictions some of us have, such as relying on people, places and things for our happiness. This results in emotional and spiritual suffering. Learn how God wants to free us from all the things that may cause us spiritual bondage. Please join with me for a 12-week book discussion of Breathing Under Water beginning Wednesday, January 18, in Room 8 @ 10:00-11:30. Sign up sheets will be in the lobby and/or contact Jane Rantz @ 614.203.9869 should you have further questions.

Where Do You Spy God?   We Spy God Project

Help us share the news that the Divine is at work!  It is once again time to submit photos or works of art and share what it means for the glory of Christ to shine through in our everyday lives. Sometimes it is difficult to feel the presence of God. Sometimes we simply are too busy to even think about God and what the Spirit is doing in our lives. This is an invitation to look for the Sacred and share your vision with the Maple Grove community. Keep your eyes and heart open and your camera ready and take photos of where you spy God, not only in creation but through relationships, daily events, times of joy and times of trial. Photos and works of art will be displayed in the Art Gallery and on the We Spy God website. Some photos will also be displayed during Transfiguration Sunday Worship Service. Submit photos (5x7 or 8x10) to the office, submit online, add to the Maple Grove Shutterfly Share Site or call Sue Fletcher for more information 614-309-9620. Be sure to include a few lines about where you spy God in the photo! Deadline is February 2, 2017.

Indian Springs Secret Santa Donations

Thanks Maple Grove. Your generosity to the kids at Indian Springs Elementary means they got to do some shopping for their family.  An Indian Springs teacher called to share the impact Maple Grove's Secret Santa donations have made for the kids at the school. For the first time in many years of teaching, this teacher received a call from a child's grandparent. She was in tears because the grandchild in her care was able to shop for family members. She wanted the child to be able to shop, but didn't have the funds. In her words, when the child came home from school with gifts for family members, "this made my Christmas." Thank you Maple Grove! AND there are gift cards leftover for those in need.

Generations of Generosity Capital Campaign Update

Thank you to everyone who was so generous and contributed to the campaign.  Maple Grove is truly a community of faith that supports our church and its mission! Our prioritized list of projects that need to be done (of course the list of things to be done could be endless) totaled $750,000 so that was the amount the campaign hoped to raise. WE DID IT! Commitments towards the campaign are at $774, 327 This does not include the $100,000 the Trustees have committed.
And on November 20 we had our First Fruits Offering. On that Sunday we received $269,751, which does include the $100,000 from Trustees.  We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that worked so hard on the campaign. We especially want thank Pastor Glenn, Monica Tenney and Patti Rottenbiller who put in many, many hours on the campaign.  Thank you again for your generosity that will impact generations to come.
