ShowFest 2018 Exciting Entertainment Lineup!
Keynote Speaker: Jeff English
Jeff English, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for the Kentucky Derby Festival

Business of Fun (Keynote): The Kentucky Derby Festival is a two week celebration of 70 events that requires over 4000 volunteers, 23 full-time staff members, and a 75 member Board of Directors. The story of the Festival and its place in the community spans over 60 years, from its early beginnings as a nighttime parade, to the spectacle it is today entertaining
1.5 million people annually. With all of the fun the Festival provides, the challenges of sponsorship, board relations, governmental regulations, and communications are constant. We’ll review the Festival’s history and also dive deep into what makes the Kentucky Derby Festival the Business of Fun!

Jeff will also be leading an educational session titled Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition. The list of complex legal issues facing the festival and event industry continues to grow each year. Let’s spend an hour discussing your event’s legal standing on such issues as protesters, waivers, conceal and carry, risk management, and today’s hot topic – drones! We’ll also reserve time for Q&A so you can maybe save your budget on some of those legal bills back home.

Excellence Awards Information
The ShowFest Excellence Awards are a long standing tradition of highlighting the best and brightest of festivals, events and associates across the Carolinas. Our goal is to identify the professionals that raise the bar and provide outstanding examples. We also use this program as a way to set new standards for the profession. We can all learn from each other and give a hardy round of applause to those who distinguish themselves with great work.
