Teaching Kitchen Graduate
on Path to Success

Robert alongside Boston Mayor
Marty Walsh during the Mayor's recent visit to Community Servings.
"The Teaching Kitchen teaches you not only about the kitchen, they teach you about life." - Robert, Teaching Kitchen graduate.

Robert is a recent Teaching Kitchen graduate who was referred to the job training program by an ATR recovery center counselor. He is in his mid-50s and has been incarcerated for 17 of the last 20 years.

"I was a bad drug addict. I know what it's like to live in the Common in a blanket because I've been there. And I know what it's like to be in prison. It was a bad place and I decided to change my life 4 or 5 years ago and I have," said Robert.

Volunteer Feels the Warmth of Delivering Meals and Hope
Volunteer in Kitchen

We're so grateful for our dedicated volunteers --  like
Katie Christianson -- who we rely on year-round to
help prepare made-from-scratch meals for our critically
ill neighbors.

Recently, Katie was recognized by Capital One's Everyday Money Boston project for her service to Community Servings. In her interview, Katie reflected on the warmth she feels as a Community Servings volunteer. "The clients talk about how tired they are after they receive chemo or dialysis, and just knowing that they have these nutritious meals they can pop right into the microwave - it's really great. Everyone is busy, but you can do so much in an hour, or you can do so much in a day," she says.
