JANUARY NEWS
January / 9 / 2017
Dear Family and Friends of Forest Hills,

The New Year is already off to a great start with morning lectures, musical concerts and other engaging Life Enrichment programs here at Forest Hills.

Perhaps the most exciting event we're bringing with us into 2017 is the opening of our brand new dining rooms in the Health Care Center! Our residents have been enjoying the beautiful spaces since December and we were pleased to welcome many family members for holiday meals as well. Based on input we received and comments from the Resident Council, the dining room on HCC I has been named the "Connecticut Ave Café" and on HCC II the "Fessenden Street Bistro." Thank you to all who contributed their ideas and input!

Some bittersweet news: after 24 years of service, Shirley Chatlin is retiring at the end of this month. Please be sure to read below for our farewell to Shirley. Also in this newsletter: highlights from January's Life Enrichment Program schedule and announcement of our most recent Ceca Award winner.

Looking forward to see you all around Forest Hills,

Retiring After Nearly 24 Years at FHDC
Shirley Chatlin, Administrative Assistant

At the end of this month, after nearly 24 years of dedicated service, Shirley Chatlin will be retiring her post as Administrative Assistant. Shirley has served as much more than just an assistant for our residents, staff and family members: she brightens our day with a smile, a story or a helping hand when we need it. Though we are sad to see her go, we are grateful for the years she has spent with us and wish her a very happy retirement. Thank you Shirley!
Ceca Award Winner
Kate Shey

Last month we celebrated our most recent Ceca Award winner: congratulations to Kate Shey! A resident requested that this extraordinary nurse be nominated for the Ceca Award. The resident shared the following story:

"Kate came to deliver my medication and I was not quite ready - while Kate waited she saw there was laundry that needed tending to. When I was finally available I was utterly surprised that not only was Kate still there, but she was continuing to finish the folding! This was done without prompting and definitely out of her 'scope of practice.' I was deeply moved by the full caring of this individual."

Stories like this one are the reason we feel confident saying: we have the best staff around!
