Ellen joined Harmony Hospice two years ago as a spiritual counselor. This important role allows Ellen to provide support and companionship to her patients and their families. “It really depends on what the person needs or requests,” explained Ellen.
Storytelling is a hobby of Ellen’s so it’s not surprising one of the things she most enjoys about her work is hearing the many stories from the people she meets on the job. Veterans are some of her favorite patients.
Most people don’t know that Ellen started her career as a dental hygienist. Later, she worked in financial planning and planned-giving. "Responding to the gentle, but persistent nudging of the Holy Spirit, I entered the seminary in 1994." Ellen became an ordained Episcopal priest.
It’s rare you’ll see Ellen without her trusted companion Laci by her side. Laci is a graduate of the Humane Society’s Companion Animal certification series. They are an inseparable team and bring joy wherever they go.
As a spiritual counselor, Ellen helps people understand hospice is about quality of life and living each day as fully as possible. She adds, “I believe the body leaves, but the spirit lasts forever.”
