Looking Back at 2016
Happy New Year, Friends and Family!

At this time every year, we take the opportunity to look back on all that we've accomplished. This year is  special because 2016 marked our five-year anniversary and has therefore prompted a little more reflection - five years worth! To say that we had no idea that the Foundation would become such an integral part of our lives is an understatement. Beyond running the scholarship programs, especially the mentorship and DC activities in the summer, there are countless ways we have been touched by this effort. We are constantly talking to our 38 past scholars as they begin professional careers, move to new cities, start graduate programs, and become even more integrated into the B.A. Family.

Each year the number of applications for support has doubled, reaching almost 200 women seeking help in 2016. While we're thrilled to be getting the word out about the scholarship opportunities we provide, we have had to readjust our operations, programs and budget to better meet such an incredible need. Kristen Hecht now works for the Foundation full time as the Program Director and Operations Manager and we couldn't be happier to have her all to ourselves. We also received more donations than ever before and we plan to award eight more scholarships in 2017 than we did in 2016.

Gearing up for 2017, we have a number of events we hope you will add to calendars (see below) and will continue to need your help. If you are interested in  getting involved - especially in reviewing our 2017 applications - please let us know. As always, thank you for your support and have a wonderful 2017.

Pathways to Public Service

On Friday, November 18, the Foundation celebrated its fifth anniversary by hosting its third annual Pathways to Public Service event in  Washington , DC. Our keynote speaker, Amy Walter of the Cook Political Report, gave a heartfelt tribute to Gwen Ifil, sharing words of wisdom inspired by her friend. Please take a moment to read her remarks  here . Twelve former scholars and approximately 100 of our friends and family came to hear her speak and celebrate five successful years with the Foundation.

Celebrating Five Years!

2016 marks the foundation's fifth anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, we published a report detailing the accomplishments of the last five years.

Why We Do What We Do

This fall we published a white paper that  examines the research and data behind the Foundation's mission. We explain why the Foundation supports women with unpaid internships in the U.S. Not to give away the ending, but research shows disparities do exist for women and minorities.  The report establishes the importance of internships,  describes  challenges  to participation,  and  provides  recommendations for ways to level the internship playing field.
