A Message From Greg

I read somewhere that literary critics voted 'It was a dark and stormy night' as the worst opening line for  a novel. Interestingly enough the critics did not vote for a best opening line. Hopefully that is because
there are so many good ones. We are now in the opening days of the new year and I pray it will be a  good one for you. As you reflect on your goals, resolutions, hopes, and dreams for the coming year let  me encourage you to resolve to grow in your faith.
Here are a few suggestions on how to do that:
1. Pray daily
                                         2. Read and study the Bible
                                         3. Serve others
                                         4. Forgive freely
                                         5. Love greatly
                                         6. Attend worship regularly.
These are sure ways to ward off those 'dark and stormy nights.' (The critics didn't say anything about  closing with that line.) God Bless You! See you Sunday!
Peace, Greg

As we finish a very successful 2015 and look forward to an exciting new year together as a Church family, I want to make everyone aware of some significant efforts by our Property Committee.  For most of last year, Letcher and Paula Floyd have been serving as temporary Co-Chairs of the Property Committee.  They have taken on several necessary projects and handled them very well.  But one project needs special recognition.
Did you know that a new roof was placed on the Education Building last month ?  You may recall that funds were raised during the Capital Campaign in 2011 to re-roof the Sanctuary and Education Wings.  At that time our roofing consultant said that the Sanctuary Wing was in immediate need (and it was attended to) but that the Education Wing might be good for another five years (so it was postponed).  Well, it has now been almost five years and that roof needed attention.  So last month the Property Committee contracted with Thayer's Exteriors to add an overlay roof to the Education Wing.  Charlie Skivers was a key person who was overseeing the project.
Please join me in thanking Letcher and Paula Floyd for their service to our Church co-chairing the Property Committee, and in thanking Charlie for sharing his expertise to oversee this project to a satisfactory completion.  Please let them know that their efforts were greatly appreciated when you see them in Church on any Sunday.
Jim Rybka, Chair of the Board and Congregation

Pastoral Caregivers News
I hope all of you had a blessed and joyous Christmas! Do you now have old items to give away to make way for new items? Books, magazines, puzzles? If so, please consider donating them to a nursing home near you. Some of the larger facilities in town, such has University Place and Westminster Village, have phenomenal libraries, but many of the smaller ones do not. It is a great gift to give a nursing home resident something to do besides just sitting or watching TV! It would be much appreciated!
We also need more folks to visit those who aren't able to get to church on Sundays. If you are interested please feel free to contact me. If this is your gift, it is a rewarding ministry!
Blessings, Jan Rybka

Jubilee Christmas 2015 was a huge success and our guests gave us the "Ultimate Ho! Ho!', which is the top rating for being welcomed in a warm and friendly way.  The thanks for that goes to all of you that worked that day.  And a huge thank you to all who purchased toys, clothing and food. The food baskets were overflowing with food items we have not had in the past.  There were smiles from all the guests when they received the baskets.  Also thank you for the generous amount of cash donated.  We were able to purchase the missing items needed to complete our guests shopping day.  I would also like to thank the committee for all the hard work to get everything set up and ready for Jubilee day.  I am ready to start the blanket making for 2016, so if you have some fleece to donate, it would be appreciated.  God Bless each of you and I look forward to having a repeat in 2016.  Sandie Hauser, Jubilee coordinator.

Thank you to everyone for the donations for the Mitten Tree!  We donated 857 items compared to the previous year of 735.  These items are donated to the Lafayette schools.
