Tip of the Month
Ring in the New Year by Registering for Hearing Screening Training!

Back by popular demand, the ECHO Initiative will again offer an intensive Implementing Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) Hearing Screening and Follow-up Web Class to prepare early care and education providers to provide quality hearing screening to young children. Here's a sample of feedback from participants who joined us in the last interactive Web Class offering:
  • I want to thank you for this EXELLENT educational and basic program to help us to help children.
  • At this time, I cannot think of one thing I would change.
I wish our Agency could find Webclasses like this for other service areas!
  • I like the interactive web class where you give examples and allow us to ask questions and you are able to answer them right away.
  • Fit is crucial in getting a pass. Before this webinar I was holding the probe and getting fails. I am becoming an expert! Screened two children today and they passed!
  • I learned a lot of information here in regards to understanding how and why I need to re-screen. It was important to know the reasons why I may or may not get a refer or error message.
The upcoming Web Class series will consist of four interactive
web-based sessions lasting approximately 60 minutes each, along with skill-based assignments that allow partici pants to practice the concepts covered during the presentations. Each class builds on information and activities from the previous session, so plan your schedule to attend all four sessions. The next class series will be offered on:

Dates: Feb 6th, 9th, 13th, and 16th - 2017
Time:  1:00 pm Eastern, 12:00 pm Central, 11:00 am Mountain,
10:00 am Pacific, 9:00 am Alaska, and 8:00 am Hawaii

This practical, hands-on skills-development experience is intended for individuals working in programs that have OAE equipment and are committed to providing OAE hearing screening to the young children they serve. By the end of this Web Class, participants will be able to:
  1. Plan and implement an OAE hearing screening program.
  2. Explain how OAE screening works.
  3. Conduct OAE screenings on young children.
  4. Outline the necessary follow-up steps when a child does not pass the screening.
  5. Access resources for tracking children through the screening and follow-up protocol.
  6. Access additional tools and resources that support successful hearing screening program quality improvement.
There is no cost for the Class, but participants must have functional OAE screening equipment and access to young children for screening practice. To reserve your space:
  1. Read the Web Class Overview.
  2. Identify the OAE equipment you have available.
  3. Provide registration information.
We  encourage programs to have more than one individual attend the Class series to maximize practice and retention of material.  Individuals who attend all sessions and complete all assignments will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Please note that the Web Class is an intensive learning experience for programs that have OAE screening equipment in hand. If you do not yet have equipment, watch our recorded Introduction to Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) Screening webinar that will help you with the initial steps of program development and includes information on selecting equipment. We plan to offer the intensive Web Class regularly so that you will have an opportunity to register and participate once you have equipment.
