"When I graduated, I viewed Texas AGD mainly as a CE provider. Over the past 20 years in practice, it's come to mean so much more. It's about a commitment to excellence and life-long learning; it's about friendships and a sense of family; and it's about personal and professional growth through leadership. I know my journey, my dentistry, and my life has been changed for the better because of my involvement. "

Central Texas AGD Creates Local New Dentist Study Club
Central Texas AGD kicks off the new year with a new squad for new general dentists in Central Texas! Central Texas AGD’s New Dentist Study Club (NDSC), started just a few months ago, already has three events under its belt as well as 18 members - as of press time – and counting.

Director of Central Texas’s NDSC, Dr. Luana Badea (pictured, top center), said the component was thrilled to launch this group, as Austin was one of the last large Texas cities to not have this social and educational group. “Oftentimes new dentists have just moved from other parts of the country. Not only do they need to grow their knowledge, they need that social network, professionally and personally. You need a community in which you can mutually trust and advise each other.”

Central Texas NDSC has held courses so far by Dr. Josh Austin and Dr. Jim Tyree. It also met up with other members of Central Texas AGD at their recent social. These combined meet-ups also help all generations of dentists to come together, giving the new dentists valuable insights.

The group also has plans in the coming year for an attorney and a CPA to help address the types of practice options for these new dentists, from a business standpoint.

In Texas, San Antonio AGD, Houston AGD, and Dallas AGD also have NDSCs. Each component customizes its educational program to the needs of its members.

The New Dentist Study Club is a Texas AGD/Local Component sponsored program for recent graduates that graduated seven years ago or less. The NDSC provides quality affordable CE to new dentists while establishing a peer group for professional and personal support and by creating an environment where attendees feel comfortable discussing their successes and their failures. By creating this environment, new dentists will build lifelong relationships and friendships. The NDSC provides a pathway of assistance to an accelerated Fellowship. It sets up mentoring by opening up these study clubs to more experienced dentists who have already attained this award.

Please see our online calendar for all New Dentist Study Club event dates in these areas. If you are interested in starting a club in your component, please contact Lindsey Robbins, Education Director here .
