The Loss of Shame in Women

Culture Invading the Church (part 5)

In Desperate Need of Leadership
If  there  ever  was  a   time  when  capable  leaders  were  needed, it  is  now.  Whether  the  role  is that  of  an  elder  or  a  "Titus 2 " woman, sheep  need  a  shepherd...a leader.  Did you ever notice that when we want someone to hold us  accountable with our weight, we  search for  the  nearest "Weight Watchers." When we want to improve our  swing or sound  better on the piano, we seek someone with experience to help us  get there.

But what  happens in our life as a Christian?  Somehow many people assume they can make it on their own. They don't need or want to have anyone hold  them accountable. They don't  seek advice  from  those  who've  traveled their path.

I   think you would  agree  that  this  is still a heart  problem.  Attidues  that   hinder  growth as  a Christian  come from a rebellious spirit..."No  one is going to  tell  me what  to  do! Who  do  you  think  you  are?"  With that  said, how can we  follow  t he  c ommand of Titus 2?

I recall a conversation with an elder about a situation that required some wisdom and direction. Expecting just that, I was taken back by the comment..."I know that's a problem, but we are not sure what to do."  And to this day, that problem still exists and nothing has been done. It is very difficult to be a Titus 2 woman with incapable leadership. As an older woman, it would be a great risk to admonish a younger woman about her apparel and not have the backing of the elders or leaders. You will end up looking foolish and petty when in actuality you are doing what is commanded of you.

Never will I forget the what a woman told me one time about a message in the pulpit from the elders. It went like this..."Ladies, we are seeing too many low cut tops and short skirts and this is the last time we want to make this announcement." WOW...leadership in action! And that comment made it less cumbersome for older women to talk to younger women just as scripture commanded.

As long as leaders are silent, modesty issues will remain untouched. The Lord's church is to be pure and a safe haven for all. It is pure joy to worship where leaders are not afraid to do their job and hold people accountable. When that happens, there is no room for favoritism and Christians will be receptive to instruction because they know this is a true example of love.
I hope these thoughts on modesty have been helpful. Have we not all made some poor choices with what we've worn?  It is about learning to be different and wanting to help our brother or sister in Christ with their journey. How could you ever regret doing that?
