Cheryl Canzanella President's Message

Cheryl Canzanella, LUTCF
NAIFA-Jacksonville President

NAIFA continues to be hard at work keeping us in business! On March 30 the Senate overturned the DOL's "safe harbor" for city-run plans to avoid ERISA. Although delayed, the DOL rule will continue to be a focus of NAIFA grassroots advocacy and will remain an important issue of conversation at this year's Congressional Conference. Please consider joining us May 23rd-24th (register here) when we speak with Members of Congress about the DOL, the ACA and tax reform, as each of these can have a great impact you and your clients. Now is the time... we need to be diligent, we need to be involved in NAIFA, we need to ensure that lawmakers hear our message loud and clear, and we need to help others understand how NAIFA protects our careers.

Every year just keeps getting better with our Annual Day of CE and this year is no exception. You can earn up to 31 hour of CE and reward yourself with Happy Hour to finish off the day! You simply can't go wrong this year! Seating is limited so be sure to register early.

Don't forget to reach out to Immediate Past President Margie Harner to learn how you can get involved next year!

NAIFA-Florida The 2017 NAIFA-Florida Top 4 Advisors Under 40

Please submit all nominations by May 5, 2017!

As the premier professional association in Florida for insurance and financial advisors, NAIFA-Florida each year is proud to recognize the success of young advisors in our industry.

This award recognizes excellence and achievement in the Insurance and Financial Services field by measuring business production, longevity in the business, professional association involvement and community involvement for professionals 40 years of age and younger. For individual advisors, this program presents an opportunity to be recognized for their efforts. If you are a manager, or otherwise oversee advisors, this program provides a recognition opportunity to motivate other young producers to reach their maximum performance potential!

Paul Daugherty NAIFA President: DOL Delay A 'Step In Right Direction'

NAIFA President Paul Dougherty issued the following statement on the DOL delay:

"The Department of Labor has prudently decided to delay the applicability date of the fiduciary rule for financial advisors issued under the former administration to give the current administration time to review how the rule might negatively impact consumers. This is a step in the right direction, because NAIFA remains concerned that unintended consequences of the rule could disrupt the marketplace, increase costs for retirement savers, and eliminate access for middle- and lower-income workers to individualized retirement planning services.

"NAIFA will contribute to the DOL review of the rule by providing data and advice from our members, who are on the front lines in communities across the United States serving the individuals, families and small businesses the rule is likely to impact the hardest. We look forward to working with the Department and Congress to ensure advisors are able to continue providing top-notch service to clients of all income levels."

IFAPAC
GOVERNMENT ADVOCACY

NAIFA's Mission Aided with PAC and PIC

The core mission of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors is advocacy. There is a common misconception that NAIFA membership dues include all the dollars needed to fund our national and state advocacy efforts. The fact is that NAIFA spends over 25% of its 12 million dollar annual budget to pay for lobbyists and programs to support our advocacy efforts. However, additional funds are needed to help gain access to our elected representatives. The source of these funds are from the Insurance and Financial Advisors Political Action Committee (IFAPAC).

IFAPAC's goal is to help the associations advance the legislative and regulatory interests of the members of NAIFA. While any U.S. citizen can contribute to IFAPAC, only members of NAIFA may be solicited to do so. Contributions must be voluntary. Contributions are not tax deductible for federal income tax purposes. Of approximately 4,600 political action committees registered with the Federal Election Commission, IFAPAC ranks in the top tier. IFAPAC is the largest insurance PAC in the country. In the last election cycle, the national IFAPAC contributed approximately $1.8 million to federal candidates and committees.

For Three Easy Ways to Contribute to IFAPAC, please click HERE. To contribute online, please visit www.naifa.org/advocacy/IFAPAC.

APIC
Insurance and Financial Advisors Political Involvement Committee (IFAPIC)

Our business is based on building relationships. The world of politics is no different. One of NAIFA's greatest strengths is that we have membership representation in each Congressional District in the country.

It is vitally important that we know which of our members know elected officials and how well they know them. Please click on the link below and complete the legislative contact form:
