12 lead changes among 4 drivers and a car that was upside down during the clash returning to finish the race (Chris Green) were just some of the highlights during an amazing 18th annual Jake’s 150 lap Figure 8 at the Tom Wood Group Indianapolis Speedrome Powered by Lincoln Tech. The June 16th program for the Brown’s Oil Service Late Models started with time trails. Reigning point champ Ben Tunny was quickest at 17.361 seconds. He then drew a 14 car invert for the main event lineup. Mike Riddle Jr received a $200 bonus from Octobuilt Performance Differentials for qualifying 8th. Many great fans and small businesses also poured an additional $3000 into the purse via $20 per lap leader bonuses.

Jesse “the Outlaw” Tunny survived tons of intense action and a titanic lead swapping tussle to claim his 3rd career Jake’s 150 crown. He joins RJ Norton Jr as now the only 3-time winners in event history. This was also Jesse’s first victory driving for his new team led by Sam Breedlove. Norton started from pole and paced the initial 13 circuits before eventually finishing a solid 4th place. From laps 14 thru 150, a trio of drivers traded the top position 11 times while racing at breakneck speeds and avoiding intersection destruction during that span. Jesse led a race best 77 laps. Mark Tunny 36 and Ben Tunny 24, but both had mechanical woes end their evening earlier than expected within the final segment.

2 talented racers flew under the radar with stout performances. Reigning World Figure 8 champion Mike Hadley Jr was called to drive the Jon Wilson owned #88 just days before this event. He kept the leaders in sight all race capitalizing on any openings finishing runner-up only 2.08 second back of the winner. Tommy St John, in only his 4th ever Figure 8, continued to impress the rail birds. The third generation Speedrome ace grabbed his second career podium finishing third on the lead lap for his Hall of Fame father. Rounding out the top ten finishers were RJ Norton Jr, Chad Sizemore, Mike Riddle Jr, Donnie Garrigus IV, Charlie Hargraves, Jeffrey Shackelford, and Matt Smith.
