Matt's Musing ...

Jesus Wept

Rachel Escamilla, our Perkins Intern, reminded us of this during our devotional in staff meeting the morning after the carnage in Las Vegas. It is John 11:35. Lazarus has died before Jesus arrives, and sisters Mary and Martha are simply beside themselves. It is not when Jesus is told of Lazarus' death that Jesus cries. It is when Jesus sees Mary and Martha crying that he too weeps.

A Calling to Leadership?
Your Nominations Team will be prayerfully considering faithful and engaged people for 2018 leadership openings in Personnel, Finance, Trustees, Generosity/Giving development, Nominations, and At-large positions for our Church Council and Annual Conference and others. What is a "faithful and engaged person"? One who humbly supports FUMC Plano and its mission with her or his prayers, attendance, financial support, service to others, and shared excitement for our church (witness). If this notion makes you pause, contact any of the following Nominations Team members: David Boatfield, Sherri Zemanski, Staci Witten, Marilyn Turingan, Larry Rogers, Monica Peter, Debbie Blackstone, Pastor Matt Gaston. We begin our discernment this Sunday, October 8.
All are invited!

As part of the Phase 2 process of the Healthy Church Initiative, we are asking all of our people to complete a congregational survey to provide our consultation team valuable perspectives about our church. It's short, easy to use, and completely anonymous. Our goal is to have at least 50% of our people complete the survey, but the more the better!
