House Bill 108 - Digital Assets
Honored to be at the signing of HB 108 last week at the Turnagain Social Club. This piece of legislation modernizes Alaska’s fiduciary law for the digital age and will be a huge help for families dealing with assets and privacy after the loss of a loved one. I was happy to be among many co-sponsors of the bill.
I learned firsthand about the difficulties accessing online accounts when my father-in-law unexpectedly passed away two years ago. During the loss of a loved one, the last thing we need is outdated statutes keeping us from getting legal access to their digital property.
Thank you to Rep. Matt Claman (D) and Senator Shelley Hughes (R) for their hard work on this bill, and thanks to Governor Walker for agreeing this update was needed. It's a great move forward for Alaskan families.
Visiting the North Slope
Last week, I had an amazing opportunity to be a part of an extensive tour of the oil and gas activities in Prudhoe Bay.
We got an inside look at the new Hilcorp rig, a Halliburton supply facility, mile 0 of TAPS, and much more.
Most important were the discussions with multiple companies regarding the current low oil prices and fiscal situation in our state.
As we continue to work on the long-term economic outlook in Alaska, we must find ways to keep our vital industries thriving and create structures that help them grow.
Thanks to AOGA for putting it all together and being great hosts!
