Montage Series presents

Jewels of the Baroque concert

The Montage Fine and Performing Arts Series at Loyola University New Orleans presents "Jewels of the Baroque," a classical chamber concert by the Lyrica Baroque ensemble, on Sunday, May 6 at 3 p.m. in Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall, located in the Communications/Music Complex on the corner of St. Charles Avenue and Calhoun Street.

Founded in New Orleans, Lyrica Baroque specializes in Baroque repertoire performed on modern instruments and combines the drama of opera with the intimacy of chamber music. The ensemble features two principals of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Jaren Philleo on oboe and Joseph Meyer on violin, along with Barrett Sills, principal cellist of the Houston Grand Opera, and harpsichordist Molly Hammond, who performs with various Houston ensembles, including the Houston Ballet.

The musicians will be joined by soprano vocalist Sarah Jane McMahon, an internationally acclaimed opera star who is a frequent guest artist at the New York City Opera and has also performed with The Munich Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre and Virginia Opera, among others. Her featured roles with New Orleans Opera Association have included Pamina in The Magic Flute and Micaela in Carmen.

The evening's program of 18th century vocal and orchestral music includes Johann Sebastian Bach's "Sonata No. 1 in b minor" and "Wedding Cantata," as well as George Frideric Handel's "Amor é qual vento" and "Sonata No. 2 in d minor," among others.

Tickets for the event are $25 for preferred seating, $15 for reserved seating and free for Loyola students, faculty and staff. For tickets and information, visit montage.loyno.edu or call 504-865-2074. Free parking is available in the West Road Garage, accessible from St. Charles Avenue.

This event is co-sponsored by the New Orleans Friends of Music and the New Orleans Opera Association.
