Build a Better World Food Drive
W hen you want to keep a good thing going, you may keep your library items a little longer than expected, which could result in late fees. Reduce or eliminate those overdue fines by bringing in food to your library! Bring your non-perishable food items to your library anytime from August 5 through August 12 and get $1.00 per donated item off of your overdue fines and processing fees, up to a total of $5.00 a day. No overdue fines? We still welcome you to drop off an item to contribute to community members in need. All food will go to NeighborImpact's Food Bank. Dr op off food Saturday, August 5, through Saturday, August 12, at any Deschutes Public Library:  Downtown Bend, East Bend, La Pine, Redmond, Sisters, and Sunriver.
"Know Cosmos" this August at Your Library
In case you haven't heard, there is a solar eclipse headed our way! From the search for life beyond Earth to the weird history of eclipses, to black holes, Deschutes Public Library explores all things space-related throughout the month of August.

Drum Roll, Please: Author! Author! 2017/2018 Line-up to Be Revealed on August 1!
Be sure to check in with the Deschutes Public Library Foundation's website on August 1, when the 2017/2018 Author! Author! line-up is revealed. The upcoming sixth season of this popular literary series promises to bring another amazing line-up of award-winning authors to Central Oregon. The line-up will be announced by August 1, and series tickets go on sale August 18. 
We're Hiring! 
Deschutes Public Library is hiring! Be sure to check out our website for information on these open positions:
- Part-time Adult Programs Assistant to help  with the design and coordination of innovative adult programs and events. Enjoy an invigorating environment with many opportunities to interact with the public at our libraries. The position is based in Bend, but includes travel to our six libraries for programs. Learn more about the position here. Application deadline: July 25.
- Part-time Public Services Specialists in our Redmond and Sunriver Libraries to provide excellent customer service to a wide range of library users. Primary responsibilities include helping customers find needed resources, providing assistance on customer accounts, and responding to public inquiries in person, electronically, and on the telephone. Approximately 80% of your time will be split between service desks and checking in materials. Learn more about the Redmond and Sunriver positions by clicking the links. Application deadline: July 27.
Finally, a Reminder About That Eclipse...
While the total solar eclipse will last for just a few minutes on August 21, the impact on the Central Oregon community will last much longer.  Emergency services planners expect up to one million visitors into Oregon for several days on either side of the eclipse. In anticipation of large crowds and extreme road delays, all Deschutes Public Libraries will be closed on Monday, August 21, and will reopen at noon on August 22, 2017. Our digital services (eBook downloads, music, etc.) will still be accessible during this time from anywhere you have access to the internet. Check with the Oregon Office of Emergency Management and the Central Oregon Emergency Information Network for the latest on preparing for the event.
