New York, N.Y. (September 18, 2013) - The John Mackey Award (www.johnmackeyaward.com) has named Johnny Mundt of Oregon as John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The Pac-12 Conference true freshman recorded five receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns as Oregon defeated Tennessee 59-14. Mundt made his first career reception on Oregon's second play from scrimmage and scored his first touchdown later in the quarter to give the Ducks a 10-7 lead that they'd never surrender. His performance was the first 100-yard day by a Oregon tight end since Ed Dickson in 2009. Other candidates considered for this week's John Mackey Tight End of the Week include Crockett Gillmore of Colorado State, Gator Hoskins of Marshall and Tyreese Russell of Eastern Michigan.
The 2013 John Mackey recipient will be presented live on December 12, 2013 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show: 6:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
