Forty years ago, internal medical residents had no limit on the number of hours they trained each week and referenced patient records on paper. In addition, only 8 percent of residents were women. Since then, the Osler Medical Housestaff Training Program has changed dramatically,  while maintaining a compassionate environment and first-rate teaching experience.  In the summer issue of Aequanimitas, parents and children share their residency struggles and  triumphs .

MD-PhD Alumnus Named 2016-2018 Rienhoff Scholar
Biennial award supports School of Medicine's Department of Surgery

Chetan Bettegowda, M.D., Ph.D. (Med '05) has been named the 2016-2018 Rienhoff Scholar. The Class of 2005 School of Medicine alumnus is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and Oncology. His current line of investigation is focused on developing minimally invasive biomarkers for individuals with a number of different cancers, including those that affect the central nervous system.  The 12th recipient, Dr. Bettegowda joins an impressive group of past Rienhoff Scholars.

1st Woman Honored As EMRA Director of the Year
Class of 1999 alumna directs the Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Linda Regan, M.D. (Med '99) director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program, was recently honored as the recipient of the 2016 Emergency Medicine Residents' Association Director of the Year Award. She is the first woman to receive the award since the program's inception 16 years ago.

The award recognizes a residency director who serves as a role model for residents and demonstrates qualities valued in a mentor.
