District 3 Community Development Block Grants (CDBG)
Request Deadline 

The City of El Paso wants to know how we can help improve your neighborhood

 

Eligible CDBG activities include, but are

not limited to, street and drainage, sidewalk, park, library, medical clinic

and accessibility improvements. Proposed projects must benefit low-and

moderate-income persons and neighborhoods.

 

City request forms are available in the Department of Community and Human Development,801 Texas Avenue, 3rd Floor, and in City facilities libraries, police stations, rec centers and senior centers located in District 3,  and can be downloaded

  
Deadline for submission

is 6:00 p.m., Thursday,

October 23, 2014.

El Paso Parks and Recreation Hosts Halloween 2014

Halloween activities will be taking place at all 16 Recreation Centers from the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department along with Esperanza Acosta Moreno Library in east El Paso from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Halloween Night, Friday, October 31, 2014. The festivities will be free with a carnival, jumping balloons, and much more in a safe and family-friendly atmosphere. The Parks and Recreation Department looks forward to hosting thousands of
children and their parents for a great night of Halloween excitement.

 Is the first woman elected to serve in District 3 on June 2008. She was re-elected in May 2009 and then again in May 2013 when she ran as the only unopposed candidate on city council. Rep. Acosta to Request Ebola Emergency Response Plan

 

El Paso, Texas - On Monday, October 20, 2014 Rep. Acosta requested the topic of the Ebola Virus be discussed at the Mayor and Council Legislative Review Committee (LRC)  and on Tuesday, October 21st  Rep. Acosta will ask for action from Mayor and Council to direct the City Manager to provide them with a City Health Department's Response Strategy should Ebola be confirmed in El Paso.

 

"I believe that it needs to be on the agenda so the public is well informed and assured that this city is prepared should we have a confirmation of the Ebola Virus. We need to provide the community assurances that we are prepared should this occur," said Representative Acosta.

 

An update on Monday, October 20, 2014 by the City Health Department will take place during the LRC special meeting at the main conference room, 2nd floor:

2.1  Discussion and action on the City Health Department's Response Strategy should Ebola be confirmed in El Paso.

 

  • Ebola Virus Key factsEbola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness in humans.
  • Community engagement is key to successfully controlling outbreaks. Good outbreak control relies on applying a package of interventions, namely case management, surveillance and contact tracing, a good laboratory service, safe burials and social mobilization. 
Reconstruction project requires closure of Wedgewood Drive near Montwood 

EL PASO - Installation of underground utility and stormwater infrastructure will require the closure of Wedgewood Drive near Montwood for approximately eight weeks beginning later this month. 

IMPACT TO DRIVERS
Wedgewood will be closed immediately north of Montwood beginning on Monday, October 27, 2014. Northbound and southbound motorists will be required to follow marked detour routes on Montwood, McRae Boulevard, and Album Avenue. (See attached map.)


  
SUN METRO IMPACTS 
As a result of the construction, Sun Metro will be required to detour Route 52. Sun Metro drivers will make courtesy stops along the detoured route as required. This detour is subject to change depending on traffic.
Buses traveling outbound, north on Wedgewood, will turn left onto Montwood, right onto Camwood, left onto Wedgewood returning to the regular route.  Buses traveling inbound, south on Wedgewood, will turn right onto Honolulu, right onto Ceylon, left onto Bermuda, right onto McRae, left onto Glengarry, left onto Berwick, right onto McRae, left onto Montwood, right onto Wedgewood returning to the regular route. 

ABOUT THE PROJECT 
The Reconstruction of Montwood Drive will improve street and drainage infrascture while providing landscaping, irrigation, new sidewalks, and ADA-compliant ramps.
