MAKE IT A NIGHT
Since his death almost four hundred years ago, Shakespeare's influence on generations of writers is undeniable. Most recently, there have been hints at the immensely popular Netflix series House of Cards' adaptation of several of the characters, themes and artistic styles taken from the playbooks of Shakepeare's Richard III, Macbeth and Othello.
Lauren Shohet's expert commentary, along with clips from the series, will explore parallels and echoes between Shakespearean characters and House of Cards' protagonists, Frank (Kevin Spacey) and Claire (Robin Wright) Underwood, in their ruthless quest for power. Whether you're a binge viewer of the series or a lover or the Bard - or both - come explore the connections between the two.
Lauren Shohet is a Shakespearean scholar and Luckow Family Professor of English, English Department, Villanova University.
