Letter from the GM: Passage of Prop. 64 & How it Affects Our Members

Last night, Proposition 64 was passed by California voters, so we'd like to quickly share what this new law means to our members. Here are some important things to be aware of at this time: 

⦁ Prop. 64 (Recreational Use of Cannabis) will not go into effect until January 2018.

⦁ Until then, we will continue to be managed under the rules of San Jose’s Title 6 and Proposition 215, which only allows for medicinal cannabis.

⦁ Recently, you may have read about cities such as San Jose that are banning recreational marijuana sales. This was done to allow cities time to determine the rules under which recreational marijuana can be distributed or not within their township. We trust that cities such as San Jose will leverage the network of compliant dispensaries for medicinal distribution of cannabis.

⦁ There will be a State Sales Tax rate of 15% that will be effective January 2018.

⦁ Effective November 9, 2016, certain sales of medical marijuana will be exempt from sales and use tax. The Board of Equalization will be publishing more information today. To be exempt from some sales taxes, the consumer will need to have a State of California Cannabis Card.  More info is available on the State Cannabis Card Program.
