Pooch Policy

We are excited to welcome you and your dogs to the Summer Market, but ask that you follow a few simple rules.  This will help us to continue to keep our customers safe:

  • Dogs must be kept on a short leash (no expandable or retractable leashes, please).

  • Dogs need to be under control and by your side at all times. Barking, growling, jumping on others is not acceptable. Please understand that other customers may have a fear of dogs and such behavior may cause someone distress.

  • Keep dogs away from market produce and other food products (this means both head and tail ends) both on and under market tables.

  • Dogs must be children & other dog friendly to earn the right to shop at the market

  • Not Everyone is a Dog Lover - Please Be Considerate:  If your dog becomes loud or unruly please remove them immediately from the market. If you do not and your dog continues you may be asked to leave the market by the vendors or market staff.

  • Dog waste must be cleaned up IMMEDIATELY and is the responsibility of the owner.

Please see the Market Manager booth for additional information and/or assistance.  Your participation in the Market is important to us, as is the safety and enjoyment of all customers.

Recipe of the Week
"Peach French Toast Bake"

Recipe courtesy of the FoodNetwork.com

1 Large whole Wheat Baguette
(about 8 ounces)
4 Egg Whites
4 Whole Eggs
1Cup Milk
1teaspoon Vanilla Extract
5 Cups sliced peaches, fresh
1/2 Lemon, Juiced
 (approx 1 1/2 tablespoons)
3 Tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Spray a 9 by 13-inch baking pan with cooking spray. Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch slices and arrange the slices in a single layer in the baking pan. Whisk together the eggs, egg whites, milk and vanilla. Pour the egg mixture over the bread in the pan.

In a medium bowl, toss peaches with the lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of the brown sugar. Scatter the peach slices evenly on top of the bread. Combine the remaining brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the top. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Uncover and bake for 40 minutes.

Serving suggestion: Top with a dollop of vanilla yogurt, a drizzle of maple syrup and a side of Canadian bacon.

MONONGALIA COUNTY WIC PROGRAM TO OFFER FARMERS' MARKET VOUCHERS

Morgantown, WV - July 30, 2015

The Monongalia County Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) will be distributing Farmers' Market vouchers to WIC participants beginning Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 9 a.m. to noon during the Morgantown Farmers' Market.  Farmers' Market vouchers will be distributed on subsequent Saturdays at the downtown market for as long as vouchers are available. The quantity of vouchers is limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.  The market is held at the Morgantown Market Place Pavilion on the corner of Spruce and Fayette Streets.  Current Monongalia County WIC participants are eligible to participate in the WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program.  WIC participants need to show their eWIC card holder for ID.

The goals of the West Virginia Farmers' Market Nutrition Program are to supplement WIC participants' diets with fresh, locally-grown produce and to increase the use and awareness of the Farmers' Markets.  Farmers' Market vouchers do not affect participants' current WIC benefits.  The vouchers are to be used to purchase fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and fresh herbs at the Farmers'Market.

WIC is a federally funded Supplemental Food and Nutrition Program for pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to age five years.  WIC provides nutrition and breastfeeding education and counseling along with an eWIC card. The eWIC card is used at local grocery stores for the purchase of supplemental foods which may include milk, cheese, eggs, juice, cereal, whole grain bread, buns and tortillas, beans, peanut butter, infant formula and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Media inquiries or interviews about this event should be directed to Ted Krafczyk, MCHD Public Information Officer, at [email protected] or call 304-319-3775.
