Another Leaders in Energy Member Has Landed a Green Job!  Come Hear Stories from Her and Others Who Have Found Employment at: "How to Find a Bright Green Job in a Dull Gray Economy" Professional Networking Event on April 16th

I recently learned that Leaders in Energy member, Carolyn Slaughter, has landed a job at the American Public Power Association.  She and other members will share their stories with us at our upcoming event on Green Jobs along with our featured speakers, Dan Smolen, green recruiter and author and Jack Levenson, with SolarCity.

We are looking forward to seeing you if you have already signed up, and if you have not, we hope you will be able to join us and register at the link contained in this message.

Leaders in Energy and public relations firm,  LEVICK , will co-host a professional networking Happy Hour to help millennials, mid-career, and seasoned job seekers build their career strategies to land or create a bright green job in a dull gray economy. The event will be held at LEVICK, 1900 M Street NW, Washington DC 20036, on Thursday, April 16, 2015, from 6 - 8 pm.

Despite the rosier employment statistics being reported in the media, many job seekers are still finding it hard to tap into green jobs and the growing green economy.  Consider the following:

1. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports unemployment has dropped to 5.5 percent for February 2015. The last time unemployment was that low was May 2008.
2. However, we know that 5.5 percent doesn't tell a complete or entirely positive story. Many people dropped out of the labor market following long term unemployment-or-they are stagnating in jobs with reduced earning power and career potential.
3. Many careerists are eager for opportunities in green business: clean energy, cleantech, sustainability, CSR, etc. But their well-developed skill may not be enough for them to pivot into the green space.
4. And the distress affects all aspects of the workforce: entry level candidates (Millennials) are very purpose-driven and environmentally predisposed. While more seasoned talent want to feel like they are doing well while doing good.
5. What should be a bright green outlook is for many in our workforce dull gray.

Our speakers will discuss strategies on how to land or create a bright green new job, talk about what companies such as SolarCity are looking for in their hires, and also hear the stories of several Leaders in Energy members who found their current positions through networking in the Leaders group.

Featured Speakers

Dan Smolen, Executive Director of The Green Suits, LLC, an executive search and career empowerment firm and author of "Tailoring the Green Suit: Empowering Yourself for an Executive Career in the New Green Economy," will discuss 10 strategies to land or create a bright green job!

In addition, Dan will be bringing a limited number of FREE copies of his book to sign for attendees at our event.  Check out his article titled:  Are There Bright Green Jobs to be Found in this Dull Gray Economy?

Dan states:"Every week, we speak to great talent whose advanced degrees in business, engineering, IT, or other fields don't guarantee easy entry into the New Green Economy. So, we counsel them to identify their gaps, then acquire the skill, accreditation, and experience they need to pivot successfully into our growing clean and green space."
Jack Levenson, Senior Field Consultant/Mentor with SolarCity (pictured standing on left with his other team members) will talk about how his local and international networking helped him, how SolarCity is hiring over 5,000 people in 2015, and what SolarCity is looking for in job candidates.

Jack says, "I joined SolarCity just 1.5 years ago in an entry level sales role working out of 6 Home Depots in MD while living in Reston.  I have been promoted 4 times and have never felt more passionate and fulfilled than in any other job (including being a middle school teacher and Peace Corps Volunteer).  I couldn't agree more that good networking and preparation pay exponential dividends in any career search!"
