I am honored to be the Honorary Chair of the 3rd Annual United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) Global Conference on June 23-25, 2011, in Washington, D.C., celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Macedonia's Independence.

In 2003, after I thought I retired from Macedonia, here comes Meto Koloski, a visiting student at American University's U.S. Foreign Policy program knocking on my door.  I agreed to meet him, had no idea what his intentions were, but here we are 8 years later, D.C. is the home of the leading Macedonian Diaspora organization in the world.  I cannot express how proud I am of these young Macedonians carrying on the work of our forefathers. 

The caliber of the conference UMD is planning is not easy to organize.  Our team here in D.C. has been working every day to ensure that the global Macedonian community has access to the top policymakers, leading thinkers, journalists, academics, and friends of Macedonia - in the heart of D.C.  We have a lot in store for you, from thought-provoking panel discussions and roundtables, awards ceremonies, to a rich cultural program full of wonderful folk performances, dancing, and traditional Macedonian delicacies.
