Hello fellow HR Pros!

Can you believe it's nearly June? Time is flying by and we are gearing up for another great KS SHRM Annual Conference! Our Conference Chairs, Makala Navarro and Amber Neises, and the conference planning committee have been busy finalizing our speakers and schedule to bring you our best event yet! This year's theme is "HR Enlisted" and we hope you will join in on all the wonderful activities happening at the conference. Please visit our conference website for more information.

As an attendee, our annual conference offers just about everything you need to be at the top of your professional game. You will hear from inspirational keynote speakers including Michael Veltri, Sarita Maybin, Matt Eversmann, and the new SHRM CEO, Johnny Taylor! We also have an excellent lineup of breakout sessions - follow one of our predetermined tracks or feel free to explore and choose the sessions most relevant to you and your role. With all of those great educational opportunities you can earn up to 11 hours of recertification credit towards maintaining your SHRM and/or HRCI credentials.

We are also pleased to once again offer a pre-conference workshop for those of you wanting a few more credits or nuggets of wisdom! This year's workshop is on "Creating a Culture of Engaged Leadership" with Richard Rierson. This workshop will earn you another 3 hours of recertification credit and includes lunch.

Best of all, over this 3-day conference you will connect with HR peers from across the state, have the chance to share best practices and find insights and solutions in our Marketplace! When I first started attending the KS SHRM Conference I will admit I was a bit shy and didn't see the value of talking with vendors or creating new connections with my fellow attendees - but my perspective has definitely shifted over the years! You never know what will come out of these connections; how they may impact your success and that of your business - I say, go for it!

We are so excited for this year's conference and hope that you will join us in Wichita on September 19-21!

Thank you for your support of Kansas SHRM!
Thursday Keynote Speaker
First Sergeant Matt Eversmann (Ret.)
Hero of the Epic Film, Black Hawk Down ,
and the Battle of Mogadishu
Dedication, Pride and Commitment: Leadership Lessons from Black Hawk Down for Business and for Life

A true American hero, First Sergeant Matt Eversmann illustrates the importance of leadership, courage and selfless service to succeed when ordinary circumstances become extraordinary challenges.

As an Army Ranger deployed to Somalia in 1993, Matt experienced the horrors of war when he and his fellow soldiers were trapped in a hostile district of Mogadishu and marked for death by an angry mob. His inspiring story of survival was immortalized in the epic film, "Black Hawk Down," which recounts the harrowing experience.

Committed to sharing the lessons he learned in the military, Matt draws parallels from his experiences to highlight the importance of leadership, courage and responsibility within any team or organization. Unambiguously humble, gracious and warm, his powerful story and straightforward insights on instilling these values stay with business leaders long after the applause has ended.

With a presentation that leaves an emotional impact, take away a renewed sense of patriotism and inspiration for dedicating your efforts to a worthy cause.
KS SHRM Partners will be our guests for First Sergeant Eversmann's keynote presentation at the lunch on Thursday.

If your organization is interested in being a KS SHRM business partner, be sure to check out all of the opportunities available at the KS SHRM website .
Marketplace Militia
The Marketplace is truly the "barracks" of the State Conference, and will be the hub for our valuable Business Partners to interact with attendees.

The Marketplace will be open for business beginning with a kickoff reception on Wednesday, September 19 at 4:30 p.m. There will be multiple opportunities for attendees to visit the Marketplace throughout the day on Thursday, September 20 as well.

We plan to saturate the Marketplace and allow ample time for our troops to source HR solutions. For more information on our Business Partner opportunities, click here.

Optional Pre-Conference Workshop
Richard Rierson, Founder of Dose of Leadership
The pre-conference workshop is on Creating a Culture of Engaged Leadership. Most organizations find it difficult to do what they regard as important; they are good at planning but struggle to put these plans into action. This is not a new challenge; this is a widespread and enduring problem for most organizations.Learning how to close this gap is the purpose of the workshop. It's not about creating more detailed plan, but rather, it's about fostering engagement through "clarity and alignment." The workshop is about showing how organizations can defeat mediocrity and stagnation, create high impact cultures of initiative, and build empowered teams with high degrees of implicit trust.

To be a part of this 3-hour workshop, simply add it to your conference registration (additional $75 charge will be applied to your conference fee). Lunch is included but space is limited so don't delay.
