Greetings!

Recent events in the Midwest with storms and extreme weather have severely strained the power grid, demonstrating the need to increase efficiency so we can maximize existing resources.  But a smarter grid comes at a cost, as higher levels of automation and integration increase the risk that hostile actors will hack the grid and wreak havoc from afar.  What would happen if a cyber attack occurred during a major heatwave, or a deep winter freeze?  Security of the smart grid is something we should all care about.

At next month's Smart Grid SIG event, you'll hear from both security experts and users of security technology about the challenges and opportunities presented by this emerging technology.  We hope you'll join us for what promises to be an interesting and informative panel, moderated by security expert D. Mike Ahmadi, COO of GraniteKey LLC

WCA Smart Grid SIG presents:
Smart Grid Security: Challenges and Solutions

August 21st 2012 -- 4:00pm - 7:00pm

(Sign-in begins at 3:30pm)
Synopsys Inc., Sunnyvale, CA

Cost: $20 before August 13th, $30 afterwards

As we continue to build out our modern electric generation, transmission, and delivery infrastructure, we continue to learn more about what it takes to address the security challenges that come with it. In the earliest days of the Smart Grid, we often made security decisions based on educated guesses combined with limited experience.

While we still have a long way to go before we can state we fully understand the challenges, time has granted us a bit more wisdom. Hopefully, this sets us on a path that helps us focus on security practices and technologies that deliver maximum value for the resources applied.

Moderator:
-- Mike Ahmadi, COO, GraniteKey LLC

Panelists:
-- Rohit Khera, Lead Cybersecurity Architect, S&C Electric Company
-- Craig Rosen, Director, Technology Risk & Strategy, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E)
-- Charles (Chuck) Speicher, Managing Principal, Secure System Center Practice, McAfee
-- Chris Villarreal, Regulatory Analyst, California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC)

Join this session as stakeholders discuss what they have learned and what direction the industry is taking towards securing our Smart Grid.

Sign-in and networking begins at 3:30pm, with the event starting promptly at 4:00pm.
