You'll sample dozens of varieties of tomatoes and then vote for your favorite. We'll even have a special children's activity so there's something fun for everyone at the Market this weekend. Chef Jeff Crane and the crew from Heirloom Restaurant in Roxboro will be leading the event so be sure to say "Hi!" and thank them for spending their morning with us. Also, bring your toughest gardening questions as the wonderful Master Gardeners will be on hand to assist you from 8 am-noon.

Finally, we're excited to announce that we opened registration for our July 29 Homefries Kid's Cooking Class with Susan Sink,  Tarheel Foodie blogger.  These classes are for children ages 8-13 who want to learn to cook with local food and are offered free of charge. Honeygirl Meadery
Honeygirl Meadery is a small urban meadery in downtown Durham making an ancient craft beverage for modern days. Mead is essentially wine made from honey, with many different styles that include additions of fruits, flowers and herbs. Our meads are hand-crafted libations made in small batches, using both local and global true source honey, local fruits, herbs and flowers. They are naturally gluten free. Our downtown Durham Tasting Room is open on Saturdays from 1-6 pm and Sundays 1-5 pm.

This week we will be sampling three meads that are great for mead cocktails: our Strawberry Mead, made with local strawberries from McAdams Farm fermented with NC wildflower honey. This mead is like the strawberry season captured in a bottle, fresh and fragrant, light-bodied and dry, with a soft, lingering strawberry finish. Try it with champagne for a brunch mimosa.

Our Orange Blossom Mead is a summery and lightly sweet traditional mead made with orange blossom honey. It is featured in this month's Durham Magazine, in a cocktail by Daniel Sartain at Bar Virgile. Daniel created a riff on a French 75, called a Local 75, using our Orange Blossom Mead and Durham Distillery's Conniption Navy Strength Gin. The June 2017 issue is out on newsstands, and also online.

We will also be sampling our Lavender Mead, made with orange blossom honey and local lavender from Sunshine Lavender Farm. You can make an easy summer cocktail by mixing the Lavender Mead with lemonade, and adding sprigs of lavender or rosemary and lemon slices for garnish. It is also lovely with a cheese plate, light summer salads, or with dark chocolate cake. Come by for a taste!

We will also have bottles available of our oak-aged Wildwood Mead, made with dark NC wildflower honey and aged on French oak for almost two years; and our Fig Orange Mead, semi-sweet and delightfully nuanced, made with caramelized figs, wildflower honey and orange blossom honey. Both are perfect for your Game of Thrones premier parties!!

Tomato Day is here! Tomatoes are at their peak and we have the cheese to pair with them! We will have Fresh Mozzarella, Dairyland Farmers cheese, Hickory Grove, Carolina Moon, and Pheta  this Saturday . We are hand stretching the Mozzarella and supply is limited. Pair our soft and flavorful version with tomatoes and basil for a Caprese salad. The Dairyland Farmers is also a fresh, unaged cheese that is moist and a little tart; perfect for lighter meals in the summer. Use it on a tomato sandwich, in our bean and corn salad recipe, as a snack with hot pepper jelly, or add to tacos with our Chorizo sausage.

All our cheese comes from the milk of our Animal Welfare Approved cows, and since they are Jersey cows, we have rich, delicious milk to use for flavorful cheeses. Carolina Moon highlights that rich flavor as it is similar to a Camembert and softens as it ages, or ripens. Hickory Grove Cheese is our own recipe and has a luscious texture at room temperature and is fabulous for melting in an omelet, or grilled cheese sandwich. Pheta is aged in a salt brine and adds flavor to any salad.

Time to grill! Try our spare ribs and sausages. Choose from Mild Italian, Hot Italian, Polish, Bratwurst, Chorizo, and Mild Country Breakfast. We also have bacon and ground pork. Our pork comes from our whey fed pigs, sausages are made with the hams for a meaty taste, and we've chosen the spice mixes we think you'll enjoy. Pick up one of our recipes and choose some meat or cheese for some great summer meals.
