10% Campaign

Quick Links
We need YOUR help to reach  our goal for the week of $500 raised for Sprouts Kid's Club!
Please visit our crowdfunding page  for more information, and help us get the word out by e-mailing friends and family, sharing the link on social media, and posting on your neighborhood listservs.

Also, please make a small  donation in person this Saturday when you vote for the winner of our Ugly Veggie Beauty Contest at the Market. Our farmers will enter the silliest or weirdest thing they can harvest and you get to choose the winner! Money raised from the competition will go to our Sprouts Club campaign and we hope the event will help spread awareness about just how beautiful "ugly" vegetables can be.

We'll also have a cooking demo this weekend so be sure to swing by the Market lawn from 10-11 am to learn how to make simple veggie hummus wraps using seasonal produce.  Check out the recipe below and be sure to say "Hi!" to Stephanie and Christa at the demo.

Hummus & Veggie Roll Ups
This is a quick, healthy and kid-friendly recipe to use fresh produce! Perfect for lunches or get togethers!

  • 1 whole wheat tortilla
  • 2 tbsp hummus
  • Fresh, chopped veggies (spinach, cucumber, tomatoes, sprouts, etc.)
  • Optional - Avocado, goat cheese, herbs, or any desired toppings.
  1. Chop all veggies/herbs into small pieces.
  2. Lay tortilla out on a flat surface.
  3. Spread hummus evenly across tortilla.
  4. Top with chopped veggies and any herbs/extras. Carefully roll up.
  5. Cut in half or in small, bite-sized pieces. Enjoy!
See you tomorrow!

Meadow Lane Farm
Grillin' time this weekend - it should be PERFECT weather to cook a 1" thick, dry-aged ANGUS Ribeye on the grill. We have other steaks such as: New York Strips, Sirloin, Filet Mignon, Flank, Skirt, Hanger, London Broil, Flat Iron, and Denver steaks (chuck filets). Make patties for the grill from BEEF, LAMB, or Goat (Chevon).  We also have Baby Back Loin Ribs for the grill, assortment of Roasts, and SAUSAGES  (you must try our Lamb Brats!).

Other cuts include: Brisket, Shanks, Short Ribs, calves liver, organ meats, DOG Bones, Marrow Bones, Leg of Lamb/Goat, Lamb or Goat Stew, Riblets, Bags of Soup Bones.

We have wonderful PORK sausages... Italian, Chorizo, Brats, HOT Country, and County X sage... from our happy pastured Berkshire X pigs. Smoked ham slices are great on the grill along with slabs of St. Louis style slabs of pork ribs!

Our USDA certified organic veggies this week include:
Tender heads of Romaine lettuce, STRAWBERRIES, baby SQUASH, Daikon radishes, etc.

Try our farm fresh eggs also.. big yellow yolks from our happy hens.

We look forward to seeing you  this Saturday  at the GREAT Durham Farmers' Market, a community destination.
Chapel Hill Creamery
Our barn cat, Grayson, found a place out of the rain to keep an eye on things.
We will have Carolina Moon at a special price this week since we have a lot that is ripe and ready to serve now. This cheese is creamy like a Brie and it's an example of a Slow Food which changes over time unlike some commercial versions which are made to have a long shelf life. Made in the traditional style, it get softer and more flavorful as it ages and it shows off our rich Jersey cows' milk. Serve as a part of your meal or as an appetizer by itself or with a chutney or our recipe for Balsamic Strawberry Sauce. Enjoy it now.

We will be selling our Hickory Grove Cheese  on Saturday . It is our own recipe and has a luscious semi firm texture at room temperature and is   fabulous for melting. Use it with crackers, grilled cheese, or a cheeseburger with our ground beef. Dairyland Farmers Cheese is a fresh, slightly tart cheese; try it in our Market Salad recipe or in tacos. Our Pheta is aged in a salt brine - also a traditional method - and is saltier than the Farmers cheese. It has the rich flavor of our Jersey milk with a sharp edge and is great for salads, pasta, or Tabouli.

We are ready for the rain to end like everyone else. We seeded summer annuals to give us grazing for the hot summer months, and the plants are coming up. The cows have been in our compost bedded pack barn so they won't tear up the grass or slip and slide on the wet ground. I'm sure they will be excited to have new, fresh grazing soon. The clouds should clear this weekend, so get out your grill for  pork Spare Ribs,  hamburgers with our beef, or sausages.  Sausages  are made from our whey fed pigs and are made with the hams for a meaty taste. Choose from Bratwurst, Mild Italian, Smoked Polish, Andouille, Sage and Maple Breakfast, and Mild Country Breakfast. We also have ground pork. Come pick up one of our recipes and taste some samples.
