Urban/Suburban

Curated by Karen Shaw

April 11 - May 27

Reception April 22 from 1-4pm

Most people in the United States reside in major cities, filled with concrete sidewalks and skyscrapers, or in suburbs where single family homes sit on carefully tended lawns. Urban or suburban, each lifestyle is characterized by distinctive architecture and civic planning that shape values , politics and the way inhabitants interact with one another. The artists in Urban/Suburban come from one or the other of these environments, so it is no surprise that their works reflect the world in which they live.

Featuring: Kim Beck, William Carroll, Darlene Charneco, Corydon Cowansage, Grant Haffner, Noah Klersfeld, Steven Millar, Cheryl Molnar, Antonio Petracca, Travis Shaffer, E. E. Smith and Susan Wides

Particles to Plexus, Priscilla Heine

Curated by Janet Goleas

April 11 - May 27

Reception April 22 from 1-4pm

Priscilla Heine has developed a visual language that is flexible and complex, assimilating both the immediate world and an internal world that emanates from within. Drawing from both sources, her paintings are lyrical and romantic, engaging in a lush and electric poetry. Fueled by a dialogue with the present, Heine doesn't so much interpret the world around her as much as she absorbs it, bringing it to life through the use of muscular calligraphy, rich pigment, organic figuration and layers of personal metaphor.

Canny and intuitive, Heine's compositions glide across color pools and stretches of raw canvas with swashbuckling energy. As she intuits her subject

matter, the artist locates meaning in the process of painting.

The Garbage Barge Revisited:

Art from Dross

June 13 - September 1

Reception: July 29 from 1-4 pm

Curated by Karen Shaw

 Senior Curator

In 1987, Islip Town became infamous when a barge containing tons of commercial trash from the town was forced to sail along the Atlantic coast for 3 months in search of a landfill for the waste. As a result, Islip Town paved the way for the nation to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

This exhibition, our annual Open Call invites artists to consider alternate ways to repurpose cast-offs, which might otherwise be waste.

Open to all visual artists working in any medium.
