JLN Country Member Nigeria Shares on the Benefits of Knowledge Exchange

In a recent blog, JLN member  Dr. Uchenna E. EwelikeHead of Standards & Quality Assurance (South-East Zone), NHIS Nigeria, sheds light on how the JLN's joint learning workshops have contributed to improvements in the Nigerian Medical Audits System.
Drawing on global learning from South Korea's Health Insurance Review and Assessment (HIRA), Dr. Uchenna organized an in-country training to share knowledge with the stakeholders on:
  • reviewing of proper claims and medical audits systems within the health insurance industry; and
  • examining different components of an efficient medical audits system, such as rules, indicators, policy-related issues, outcomes and usages.
Impact of Joint Learning on Nigeria
  1. Nigeria is taking steps to drive efficiency in its NHIS, guided by practices from Korea's HIRA system.
  2. Nigeria is gradually beginning the reform towards e-claims and is attempting to develop legal and policy level support to re-establish NHIS with a better IT system with improved linkages. Read more

JLN Collaborative Writes Open Letter to Delegates of WHA70

This month, t he JLN Primary Health Care (PHC) Measurement for Improvement Collaborative shared an open letter with delegates of the World Health Assembly and the global health community on key insights on the need to better measure and strengthen primary health care systems. The group strongly voiced the following suggestions:
  1. To effectively measure primary health care performance, there is a need to align on a collective vision for what strong primary health care systems look like.
  2. There is need to evolve the approach to measurement to match that vision for PHC.
  3. Capturing of the full PHC system when monitoring frameworks should be ensured.
  4. Critical measurement gaps must be addressed.
  5. Information must be fed back, especially to individuals and communities.
