Career-Based Vocational EducationCareereducation

On Thursday, June 22, the Career-Based Vocational Education students took a field trip to the downtown Orlando Public Library with Mr. Walker and Ms. Griffin. They toured the Melrose Technology Center where students got to observe a live recording session, photography shoot, and video production taking place. The students also got to tour the Fabrication Lab and Fashion Studio.

After the tour, students enjoyed seeing a reptile show that was part of the summer reading program. Did you know that the Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center offers free classes to Orange county residents all year? Check out the schedule here.

GROW Orlando is expanding their offerings for our students. Alex Amicucci is now teaching our CBVE students STEM-based activities as well.* On Wednesday, June 21, "Mr. Alex" taught the students about the science behind a rocket launch. After a brief overview of the mechanics in the classroom, Mr. Alex brought the students outside for a live demonstration, which was enjoyed by all.

Gianna Acocella and Michael Thomas-Loving
Junior Gianna Acocella and Senior Michael Thomas-Loving were selected to participate in Orange County Public School's Junior Leadership Orange program. Check out this year's Word Warriors!
These students knew the SAT Word of the Day every day at lunch and could use it correctly in a sentence. In addition to scoring candy five days a week, these Word Warriors received certificates and goody bags at the end of the year. Of course the ultimate reward is seeing increased test scores. Way to go, Tigers!

Brianna Butler

Senior Brianna Butler has had a summer full of singing engagements! Last month she sang the National Anthem at the Sunshine Chapter of the Association of the United States Army. The Ball honored current and past veterans and recognized the importance of supporting our growing population of Wounded Warriors and Gold Star families here in Central Florida. The Sunshine Chapter honored the sacrifice of many and celebrated 242 years of service to this nation by the United States Army. Thank you Brianna, for volunteering your time and talent for this special event!

On Friday, June 16, Senior Brianna Butler was the featured soloist at the Negro Spiritual Foundation's Women of Voice luncheon. She is pictured above with choral director Andrea Green. Our Superior-rated chorus and band have been invited to play at Carnegie Hall next spring. Please check out the Jones High School Foundation website to see how you can help our students make the trip.
