As Solomon prays for wisdom, we seek to more deeply know the treasures of faith. In today's gospel Jesus offers everyday images that reveal to us the reign of God: a tree that becomes a sheltering home, yeast that penetrates and expands, a treasured pearl, a net that gains a great catch. Even as we seek the riches of God's reign, the great surprise is that God's grace finds us first!

Congregational Meeting Notice
We will hold a congregation meeting on Sunday, September 17, after the church service to vote on approval of the Joy's revised constitution. At our annual meeting in January, the congregation gave provisional approval, subject to another meeting and vote if the changes recommended by the Alaska Synod were substantial. For those interested in a detailed review of the revisions, we will meet after the service on Sunday, August 13 to go over the new constitution and how it differs from the old one.

Like Seeds in the Wind
Be sure to take a look at Joy's collection of crosses near the ramp to the Sanctuary.  We've now grown to two walls with a collection of 90 crosses in all!  The second wall is anchored by a beautiful resurrection cross donated by Corinne Finnie and Clarke Hemphill.  Thanks to all who have donated crosses from their journeys, near and far, allowing us to travel with you vicariously.  There's plenty of room for more travel and more crosses!

If using the Donate button on the Joy website isn't sufficient for your needs to set up or change the amount you would Iike to give electronically, simply visit the App Store and find Give+, a Vanco Service. This app, available to Apple and Android users alike, will guide you to find our church and select your options for giving.

Fred Meyer Rewards Contributions
Joy Lutheran Church's supporters (19 households) who shopped at Fred Meyer between 04/01/2017 and 06/30/2017 have contributed $103.94 to Joy Lutheran.  

If you would like to register your Fred Meyer Rewards Card, visit  Participation does not affect/reduce your Fred Meyer Rewards or gas rewards.  If you have not re-registered since June 30, 2016, your prior registration has been cancelled and you'll need to renew it at the website listed above.  Thank you for your continued support!!!

Joy Lutheran Church is a partner with Love INC and other area churches in the Eagle River's Annual Backpack Giveaway.

Each church is given a collection wish list.  This year our goal at Joy Lutheran is to gather the items ( *) listed below.  Please deliver any contribution to Joy Lutheran by Sunday, August 6.  We are also looking for a volunteer to deliver our gifts to Harvest Christian Fellowship on Wednesday, August 9, or Thursday, August 10.

Joy of Reading Book Club

The book for August is To the Bright Edge of the World by Eowyn Ivey.  It will be August 21st at 6:30 pm at the home of Jennifer Moore.
