The project began with an LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) federal grant two years ago and is running strong due to community contributions, the support and expertise of the Watauga County Historical Society, and Appalachian State University.
Funding in part is provided by a grant from the Legacy Fund, which is administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation. Press Release

Annual Reading Challenge Congratulations to Laura Minnich for winning the second quarterly drawing for the Aunnual Reading Challenge! Find Waldo in Downtown Boone!

This July, Foggy Pine Books will be hosting an exciting month-long scavenger hunt to find Waldo in twenty-five participating local businesses. Throughout the month, there will be prizes awarded to the players. Please stop in at the library to participate!

Through a grant from the High Country Watermedia Society and funding from the DBDA, the Watauga County Public Library was able to purchase an art display system and is now able to participate as a venue for First Friday Art Crawls! On July 7th, from 5:00-6:30, the library will be hosting art generated by the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum's Afternoon Art and Doodlebug Club programs. The public is invited to attend.

Pillowcase Project coming in August!
|
The Pillowcase Project, sponsored by Disney, is a preparedness education program for grades 3-5 that teaches students about personal and family preparedness and safety skills, local hazards, and basic coping skills. Red Cross volunteers lead students through a "learn, practice, share" framework to engage them in disaster preparedness and survival skills. Upon completion, students receive a sturdy pillowcase in which to build their personal emergency supplies kit.
