Watauga County Public Library Newsletter                                                        July 2017

Dear library patrons and history buffs:

Local history has never been so accessible!!
Our Digital Watauga collections are increasing as more is contributed for digitization!

See the link below and be transported to another time:
Here is a photo from the collection taken in 1957.

"Pageant Parade," Digital Watauga, accessed June 27, 2017, http://digitalwatauga.org/items/show/2984.

The project began with an LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) federal grant two years ago and is running strong due to community contributions, the support and expertise of the Watauga County Historical Society, and Appalachian State University.
Funding in part is provided by a grant from the Legacy Fund, which is administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation.

Pillowcase Project coming in August!
The Pillowcase Project, sponsored by Disney, is a preparedness education program for grades 3-5 that teaches students about personal and family preparedness and safety skills, local hazards, and basic coping skills.  Red Cross volunteers lead students through a "learn, practice, share" framework to engage them in disaster preparedness and survival skills.  Upon completion, students receive a sturdy pillowcase in which to build their personal emergency supplies kit.
