Participate in the 'Built to Last' Project - A Study of Architects

Professor Brady Firth and Jordan Nielsen from the University of Iowa are conducting the "Build to Last" project, an independent research effort to learn more about how architects cope with the stresses of their profession.

AIA Indiana has agreed to let them reach out to our membership and offer the opportunity to participate in the study because we believe your responses can contribute to their research, and hope the results can help us learn more about the forces that impact Indiana architects, and how AIA Indiana can aid you in your professional development and success.

Those of you who choose to participate in the study will complete three online surveys (about 10 minutes each) over the next several weeks, sent directly to you by Brady and Jordan. At the end of the study, they'll share an overview of their findings with us. All of your individual responses will remain anonymous and confidential.

Those who complete the three surveys will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon.com gift card.

We encourage you to consider participating in order to help Brady and Jordan with their research, but to also help us all of us learn more about our meaningful profession. CLICK HERE to learn more about the study and how to participate.

How to Talk About Architecture with Clients and the Public

While there is great respect for architects, there's little understanding of what we do, or how our work affects others. It's our job to help others understand what we do, and more importantly, why it's important to them. We know well that when we collaborate closely with clients, we can design and build better homes, communities and public spaces that benefit all. Supported by a tremendous amount of research and developed with AIA members, the AIA Message Book helps bridge the gap between architects and the public. The AIA Message Book assists you in explaining the work of architects. Using proof points, statistics, and anecdotes grouped in topic areas that you can customize, this guide will help with your communications and messaging efforts. CLICK HERE to learn more.
