Slow Food Philadelphia

Slow Food is a non-profit member supported International movement, founded in 1989 to counter the rise of fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people's dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.

Greetings!

Summer is officially here and the Farmers' Markets are brimming with fresh produce and flowers.  We hope you are supporting your local neighborhood market (you can go to our website guide to locate one near you) or if in the city visit the Reading Terminal Market and our friends at Fair Food on the 12th Street side.  We have also added a guide to our website to help you find local resources and events in our region that Slow Food Philly supports.  We hope you find this information useful.

Please show your support by attending our annual summer event that benefits Farm to City.   This annual event provides us with an opportunity to bring our Slow Food Philly friends and members together to eat, share, and celebrate.

7th Annual Good Food, Good Beer and the Rest is History

Saturday, July 16 · 6:00pm - 9:00pm
The Shambles (Head House Square Market)
2nd & Lombard Streets
Philadelphia, PA

This annual outdoor event is a fundraiser with proceeds going to Farm to City. We have stepped up this year's event to include a pig roast with plenty of sides including vegetarian selections, desserts and beer. The pigs are being locally sourced from Countrytime Farm, caterers this year include Feast Your Eyes and Healthy Bites, BT Baking and the Restaurant School, and joined by our friends from local breweries including Philadelphia Brewing Company, Earth Bread & Brewery, Victory Brewing, and Stoudt's Brewing.  We will provide seating this year and will have a side stage with demos provided by DiBruno Cheese, Aliza Green / cookbook author, and Blue Corn Alianza sampling Mexican blue corn products.

Tickets this year will be $25 per ticket which includes all you can eat and beer sampling and are available through Brown Paper Tickets.  We encourage you to purchase your tickets in advance; tickets at the door will be $30.

Sunday Suppers Program is looking for assistance.  The Sunday Suppers Program offers the possibility of change - one meal, one individual, one family at time.   So many of the people who come to Sunday Suppers normally eat what is fast, inexpensive and often unhealthy, full of sugar, often fried, and heavily processed.  Sunday Suppers offer a healthy alternative by providing a cooked meal that includes salads, chili made with turkey, salmon cakes, steamed broccoli.  The best part is that 9 times out of 10, they ask for more. They do not only eat these things, they enjoy them.  They are very close to their goal of $20,000 so please go to their website and donate.  They are also looking for desserts.  They can be made at home or in the kitchen at their West Kensington Ministry.  Your expenses will be reimbursed.  If you are interested please contact Sue Lee at susan_c_lee@verizon.net.

Looking forward to seeing you at Good Food, Good Beer, and the Rest is History event!
