Greetings!

Charlie Cruce
Charlie Cruce,
Director of Missions
Summer is in full force, and I do hope your AC is working properly! It seems that we are having another summer of relentless opportunities to react and respond to extreme temperature stimulations! I quote that great theologian of another day, Mark Twain, who said, "Everybody seems to talk about the weather but nobody seems to be doing anything about it!" It is rumored that he also said, "The coldest winter that I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!" Need I remind you--It's hot!
But, our God is still doing some neat things in and through our churches across our network this summer!

First, camps are alive and well at Tulakogee and Falls Creek!

Last week, five TMBN churches were involved in a number of mission opportunities in Colorado--specifically in the Denver area. God did some great things through the teams from these churches in our network!

Last weekend, I had the privilege to be in Evergreen Church, and I assure you that God is working through that great congregation! I appreciate so much Pastor Michael Gabbert and the leadership team of Evergreen! Scott Meeks did an outstanding job of leading worship there, and we had the privilege of seeing Pastor Mike Holt baptize a young man named Ben into the Family of God! This church is touching lives--beginning here in Tulsa and extending to the ends of the earth!

I also had the honor and opportunity to share in a deacon ordination service at Tulsa Hills Church a few weeks ago! God is at work through Pastor Verne McCabe and the good people of Tulsa Hills! This church was at a critical crossroads a few years ago, but God is alive and well at Tulsa Hills!

One of our new churches, Community Baptist in Coweta, which is sponsored by FBC, BA, had their first VBS in a number of years at their location with over 100 children attending! With the sponsoring church having over a 1,000 in VBS, both churches had well over 1,100 children involved in VBS with a number children coming to Christ in both schools! Isn't God good?!?

Also, a few weeks ago Lakeview Southern Church in Skiatook voted unanimously to have a transitional pastor as they prepare to call a new pastor in the near future. This church has a core group of people who want God to do something in and through them as they look forward to the coming days! It was exciting to hear that the church plant that they sponsored, Riveted Church, led so capably by Pastor Jim Stratton, recently bought a new facility and paid it off in a just few weeks through generous giving from His people!

Pastors, remember the invitation of Pastor Ted Kersh to a Pastors' Breakfast on Monday, July 16, at 8am at South Tulsa Baptist Church!  Pastor Bill Elliff of Summit Church in Little Rock, will be the special guest. Bill will sharing with us about a ministry called OneCry. Already, there are hundreds of people involved in OneCry. Pastor Ted wants to invite you to this breakfast as his special guest. We will have breakfast at 8am; after breakfast, Bill will share with us. Please call Pastor Ted's ministry assistant, Melanie, at 918-299-0904 and make your reservation for this special time of fellowship and inspiration.

God is up to something! Let's not miss what He wants to do! I love you with the love of the Lord!

P.S. As field supervisor, it was my privilege and honor to serve on the Oral Defense Committee for Pastor Phil Sallee as he defended his dissertation at Southwestern Seminary a few weeks ago. Dr. Sallee passed with flying colors! His work focused on the use of technology in the discipleship process with his congregation! His conclusions were fascinating and enlightening! You might want to get a copy of this work when he completes the final edition! God is using Dr. Phil Sallee and the great congregation of New Beginnings Church in Bixby to make a difference in Tulsa Metro and beyond!

In Him,
Charlie Cruce

Continuing its tradition of reaching out to ministers in Oklahoma and beyond, OBU's Herschel H. Hobbs College of Theology and Ministry will host the 2012 OBU Pastor School. The School is designed to provide an opportunity of ministry development for Baptist pastors.

David W. Whitlock, OBU President, writes:

Years ago, as a new bivocational pastor, I realized I needed preparation for ministry. In addition to enrolling in courses through OBU, in the summer I attended pastors school for personal encouragement and development as a pastor. These times of study and growth were extremely helpful. Several years later, as a part of my researh on bivocational ministry, one of the primary concerns identified was the need for theological and ministry preparation. I was convinced that distinctively Christian universities were uniquely positioned to reach out to ministers--both full-time and bivocational.

I am very excited that OBU is re-establishing its long tradition of reaching out to ministers in our state and beyond through a summer pastors school. Developing strong relationships directly with local churches will prove to be mutually beneficial to the church and to OBU. This is another way we can fulfill our mission and core values.

Transitional Pastor Training

Transitional Pastor Training will be held August 20-22 in Oklahoma City at the Baptist Building in OKC. The cost is $80 (which covers meals and materials).

The training begins at 5:30pm on Monday, August 20, with a dinner and then continues on Tuesday, August 21 and Wednesday, August 22, from 8:30am to 4:30pm. In addition to dinner on Monday night, lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday is provided. Each participant is responsible for their own lodging.

While the training is intended for those who anticipate the possibility of leading a pastorless church through a time of transition, we encourage any pastor to go through the training. A recurring evaluation we have heard through the years at the end of the training is, "I wish I'd had this twenty years ago!"

If you have questions, please contact Brent Selby or his assistant, Kdie Nix. She can be reached at knix@bgco.org or (405) 942-3000, x4401.
