A Message From the President!

This week's After 5 networking event was, for me, such a great reminder of why MBA Women LA is so important, especially here in Los Angeles. As I talked to women - both members and not - I was reminded of how spread out and autonomous a city we live in. As professional women in business - some in the midst of a large corporate business, some working from home either as independent contractors or as a part of a wonderful flexibility package negotiated with their company - we need the network that MBA Women LA provides. Our chapter events and

  • Get out and connect: We need to break free from our every day work whether we are at home working alone, or just buried in the every day work that we are so used to doing. As professional women, we grow when we are able to connect with other women to share experiences
  • Experience a new place: We know that it is so easy to just stick within our own neighborhood in LA - the sprawling metropolis that is it. But, it is so great to have a wonderful reason to experience a new restaurant in a new part of town.
  • Support and professional development: OK, so the After 5 events aren't about professional development, but many of our other events are. And, what all of the events offer is support - a chance to discuss with other professional women what your goals are, what things you need a little help with, and how you are hoping to grow in your life or your career.

What a great group of women we have as members! Thank you for helping me get so much from my membership in MBA Women LA. I would love to hear what you get out of being a member. Email me anytime, to share something you enjoy, or let me know if you would like to see something else. You can always reach me at LA.president@mbawomen.org

Meet MBA Women Los Angeles Member: Michelle Sullivan!

MBAWI-LA Member since March 2014

Industry: Technology, Coaching, and Consulting

B-School: University of San Diego, but I'm a true die hard alumn of my undergrad, University of Michigan

Why did you join MBAWI LA?

After being part of other organizations over the years, I've found it a challenge to find a group of high quality professionals with a "pay it forward" attitude who truly want to grow themselves while equally supporting and inspiring other members. From what I researched, then after attending an event before joining, it was an easy decision. MBAWI-LA is comprised of a diverse group of women, events (and locations), welcoming environment, and provides valuable opportunities for growth.

Where do you work and what do you do?

I wear a few different hats and always will. I am currently a COO at a technology start-up, Reppify, headquartered in San Francisco (I negotiated keeping my base in LA) building the entire organization from a people, process, and systems perspective. Most rewarding has been growing the team globally and building a company culture. It's has been exciting attending all of the events my position requires, particularly in the funding and start-up realm.

Last year, I formed a company with three other women called Dragonfly Consultants with a focus on developing and shifting cultures that support the growth and success of women in the workplace. Given the changing role of women in the workplace (especially across generations) and the lack of boundaries between work and home, we have created a refreshing organizational model for modern times. I also coach executives, expatriates, and cross-cultural organizations through Sullivan Global Consulting and guest lecture at the University of San Diego graduate school on the latter. I love what I do and am truly inspired by the people I work with.

What do you when you're not working?  Travel, the outdoors, and wine. Any chance I get, my husband and I are partaking in an adventure locally or globally. I'm all about conscious balance and a curiosity of life and other cultures.
