The Year in Review

June 30 marked the end of the last fiscal year, and we are proud to share that we surpassed our fundraising goal and raised $14,183.10 to support the BCNC Youth Center, funding important programs such as the College Access Program, YouLead (a digital storytelling curriculum), a variety of arts programming, and a number of field trips and local opportunities for our youth members. Thank you!

The new fiscal year brings an ambitious increase in our fundraising goal for next year-- $15,000. With your help, we will continue supporting BCNC's youth programming and increase the number of opportunities for the youth to develop critical leadership, career, and life skills.

For a taste of what the Youth Center means to high school students, check out this video recently released by the New England Cable Network that highlights BCNC's impact on the community's youth.

Want to get involved with Bamboo Circle or volunteer with the Youth Center? Upcoming events include our Annual Rooftop BBQ and a Career Day to help high school students start thinking about college and beyond. Keep an eye out for more details later this summer!

Please contact Kelly Yardley at with any questions about how to get plugged in.

Dragon Boat Festival
June 11-12, 2016
Charles River | Boston and Cambridge, MA

Thank you especially to those who contributed to the success of this year's Dragon Boat fundraiser. With 17 paddlers and countless supporters, we raised $5,483 to support the BCNC Youth Center!

We would also like to give a special shout-out to our sponsors for your dedication and commitment to community initiatives. We couldn't have achieved these goals without your support!

And come find us at the Rooftop Pool Party this Sunday!

Serene Kwan was born in Guangzhou, China, and immigrated to the US (SF Bay Area) at the age of 7. Growing up in a community where education was not valued by most, she had to do a lot on her own to be academically successful, her journey ultimately bringing her to Cornell University. Serene joined Bamboo Circle because she wants to help other Chinese immigrants gain access to resources that her family didn't have when she was young.

Dora Hui is a Boston native who enjoys kayaking in the ocean as much as marching in political demonstrations, and her positive experiences in participating in and leading youth empowerment programs is what led her to BCNC's Youth Center and Bamboo Circle. An alumna of Wellesley College and a current grad student at Syracuse University, Dora spends most of her day balancing work and school but always makes time to cook (noodles are a particular weakness), play squash, and wander around the city.
