Arts Commission announces grant awards
Arts Commission Awards $2,266,000 in Grants Statewide   
On July 6, 2016, the Arizona Commission on the Arts announced 239 grants to Arizona nonprofit arts organizations, local arts agencies, schools and community organizations. 

In total, the competitive grant review process for fiscal year 2017 (July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017) resulted in an aggregate investment of $2,266,000, and represents a more than 100% increase to total funding awarded during last year's first grantmaking cycle.

Every two years, Arizona's teaching artists, educators, arts administrators and arts education advocates gather to explore key areas and trends in education and the significant role arts educators play in the academic, social and personal success of students. The 2016 Joint Arts Education Conference will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 in Phoenix, AZ. Registration will open in August.

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) is currently accepting paper and session submissions for their 2017 AERA Annual Meeting which will be held April 27 - May 1, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. The theme of the meeting is "Achieving the Promise of Equal Educational Opportunity."

Measuring Youth Development Outcomes in Arts Education

The webinar, presented by the National Endowment for the Arts, will provide an overview to the Boston Youth Arts Evaluation Project (BYAEP), including the context and history of the project, how and why it was developed, and a review of the logic model framework and tools.

Full Implementation of new Arizona Academic Standards in the Arts
2015-2016 was a transition year for the new Arizona Academic Standards in the Arts, which will now be fully implemented statewide during the 2016-2017 school year. The revised standards embrace the idea of Artistic Literacy - the ability of students to create Art, perform and present Art, respond to or critique Art, and connect Art to their lives and the world around them.

ESSA's Well-Rounded Education
This new report from Education Commission of the States reviews the components of the Every Student Succeeds Act's (ESSA) prevalent "well-rounded education" concept and potential ways that states can support educational access for every student under this new law.

Professional Development Grant
NEA Art Works Arts Education Grants
Deadline: July 14, 2016
These grants from the National Endowment for the Arts support projects for pre-K-12 students, the educators and artists who support them, and the schools and communities that serve them. The deadlines are no longer divided by "community-based" and "school-based" projects, and the NEA will accept applications for all three project types at both deadlines - Direct Learning, Professional Development, and Collective Impact. 

Professional Development Grant
Cycle B Deadline: September 8, 2016
Professional Development Grants (PDG) are designed to assist Arizona artists, arts administrators and arts educators with funding support for participation in professional development and skills-building activities which contribute to significant professional growth. Learning activities include participation in conferences, symposia or residencies. Cycle B funds activities with a start date between November 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017.

Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants
Arts Learning Collaboration
Cycle B* Deadline: September 8, 2016
Arts Learning Collaboration Grants enhance the work of arts educators, classroom teachers and school-based arts programs through collaborative projects taking place in-school (during regular school hours), after-school, or during summer/inter-session and in-services. 

Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants
Cycle B* Deadline: September 8, 2016
Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants enhance the work of community and social service organizations/ governmental entities through partnership projects with professional teaching artists and/or arts organizations.
