Farm at the CSA Farm in Framingham
Stearns Farm CSA

Date/Time: Saturday, July 9, 9:30am -12:30pm

Location: 862 Edmands Rd, Framingham

Stearns Farm offers opportunities to learn about growing food by getting your hands in the soil. Working at Stearns Farm is a great way to learn about the growing cycles of different crops. Depending on the season you may spend time seeding, planting, weeding, and mulching. Volunteers will be planting vegetables and doing a variety of farm work tasks. It is strongly suggested that volunteers wear long pants and bring a bottle of water due to the physical nature of the work. An orientation to the farm and tasks that day will occur at 9:45am. Please note that there are no cell phones allowed on the farm, so volunteers should keep them with their cars/other belongings. Also, there are no trash facilities at the farm. Whatever volunteers bring in with them must be carried out.

Ages: All ages welcome but children must be supervised and each child accompanied by an adult.

Time Commitment: Three hours

Sorting Books
More Than Words

Date/Time: Saturday, July 16, 1:30 - 3:30pm

Location: 56 Felton St., Waltham

More Than Words empowers young people ages 16-21 who are court involved, homeless, in the foster care system, or out of school to take control of their lives by taking control of a business. They operate an online book business, as well as a brick-and-mortar bookstore and cafe on Moody Street in Waltham. Volunteers will have a youth-led tour of the business, and then work alongside youth in various projects to support the daily operations such as pre-scanning and sorting donated books and organizing store displays. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing that they don't mind getting dirty--donations come in all sorts of conditions and the basement can be very dusty!

Ages: Children are welcome to volunteer but must be supervised by an adult at all times.
