Scullers show

I am delighted that a video of me singing "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" filmed by Melinda Gordon was selected as one of five finalists by WooTube.  The July episode, which features my video, will premiere Wednesday, July 6th at 10:30 pm on Charter TV, and will be available On Demand after the show's premiere.  On July 7, you can view the video.

In June, the Music Salon welcomed guitar playing singer/songwriters Chuck Vermette and John Spinks for a totally delightful evening of music.  Chuck and John have different styles that complemented one another beautifully!  A good time was had by all!

On Saturday, October 1, I am delighted to welcome young singer Abigail Arndt accompanied on guitar by veteran performer John O'Leary and back on harmonies by her mom, Margaret Arndt for a house concert, here in Waltham at the Music Salon!

We will also enjoy the inspirational visual art of Lidia Scher!  I personally own 5 of her pieces, and LOVE the energy her art emanates.  Poet Beatriz Alba will read a poem during dinner.

Enjoying their heartful and soulful music in an intimate setting is a very special treat!  We are having a potluck dinner at 6 pm and the music starts at 7 pm.  E-mail me at lsmheart@aol.com to make your reservation!

"To create beauty is to give happiness.
To give happiness is to create beauty.
Art and life must be one.
Art is thought.
Art is imagination.
Art is feeling.
Art is action.
Art is the highest expression of being.
Art is not distinct from life.
It is the highest expression of life.
Each human being should be an artist,
Were it only of his own life..
Yes to be able to say my life is a work of art."

--Robert Muller

"Where there is pain, there will be strength.
Where there is sadness, there will be wisdom.
And where there is fear, there will be renewal."

The Lasting Shadows of Inherited Family Trauma
In my early adulthood, as I diligently started the process of healing from past trauma, I became increasingly aware that, no matter how hard I tried, in my own personal work in therapy, personal growth workshops and spiritual practices, some issues persisted and never seemed to be fully cleared. I found myself wondering, could it be that some issues were bigger than me, greater than just psychological challenges and perhaps even issues that were passed down from past generations?

From my own studies and work as a body psychotherapist, I was aware that when any of us undergo a traumatic experience, the entire experience, including the memory of the experience, fragments into shattered parts, much like the way a windshield shatters upon impact. Trauma can be likened to a wrecker ball that crashes through the fabric of our lives, leaving words, memories, images, feelings, impulses and body sensations, broken into disconnected jigsaw puzzle pieces. We lose touch with many of the puzzle pieces, yet they remain stored in our unconscious.

Music is such a source of great joy, and is a universal language to connect people heart-to-heart. In addition to my own musical gigs,   I also participate in many of the wonderful open mics and other musical events available to local singers:

Amazing Things Arts Center organized by Leslie Holmes
Many BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) singers perform in a monthly open mic.  This month, it is June 13 at 7 pm.

BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) Open Mics in Watertown (next one is Wednesday, July 27 at 7 pm at UU Church in Watertown)
Club Café in Boston has many open mics hosted by a wonderful variety of singers and pianists in its Napoleon Room.
The Winiker Band  brings their unique joyous musical flavor to Brothers Restaurant in Brookline, MA on Saturday and Sunday nights.  Singers are welcome.

And here in Waltham at my home, I host special house concerts through the Music Salon.    I will  be hosting young singer, Abigail Arndt accompanied by John O'Leary on guitar and Margaret Arndt on harmonies on October 1.  Inspiriational visual artist Lidia Scher will share some of her work.  And fabulous singer-songwriter Dean Stevens will join us on March 18.

What is EKP?
EKP is Emotional-Kinesthetic Psychotherapy, a heart-centered, body-centered psychotherapy method Linda Marks developed and has taught and practiced for nearly twenty years. Working with the heart, touch with permission, the wisdom of the body and the intuitive guidance of the spirit, EKP creates a special sense of intimacy that deeply touches and transforms most all who participate.

Participants can be "client," witness or helper as an individual group member has a "turn" to do deeper heart-centered, body-centered psychospiritual work in the center. Since the electromagnetic field of the heart extends out 10 - 12 feet from our bodies, as we go deeper and open our hearts, we are all touched.

EKP helps restore our capacity as organs of perception. The skin is our largest organ, and a source of soul deep knowing, perception and expression. When our hearts and hands can work as one, we move beyond defenses safely and respectfully and find freedom, connection and expression.

Emotional safety is the foundation of EKP.  When we are emotionally safe, we are more aware of feelings, sensations and deeper thoughts in our bodies and hearts.  You will have a chance to listen to and care for your heart as you help create and hold a safe healing space for everyone's heart.  Experience what we mean when we say that in EKP, "when anyone has a turn, everyone has a turn."
