Independence House is giving away 31 prizes, one on each day of the month in July. The "Seas the Day Holidays in July" calendar raffle was made possible thanks to many businesses donating exceptional items that range from a dessert pie from Centerville Pie Company to gift certificates from numerous restaurants with values that range up to $150, to spa and yoga services, beautiful pottery pieces and Heritage Adventure Park climbing passes. To make things even more exciting, Independence House has added giveaways for their upcoming Elton John Tribute Concert in October and some of their signature Independence House Cape Cod Coffee and Mugs.  There's more along with a chance to win 4 Red Sox tickets and a pair of New England Patriots tickets.
The Seas the Day Calendar Raffle is just $10 per calendar entry, and while the winners have begun being chosen each day, there are still almost 3 weeks of prizes to give away and calendars can be purchased for entries throughout the month of July. Visit https://indhouse.ejoinme.org/calendar for a full view of the calendar and prizes, and to purchase securely online.  Calendars can also be purchased during business hours at the Hyannis Independence House office at 160 Bassett Lane.

Independence House retreats for reflection, sharing and self care
On June 20th, all staff members of Independence House joined together for a day of appreciation and an opportunity to connect with each other, rejuvenate our bodies, spirits and minds, and share with each other the joy in the work we do.  At this year's annual retreat, we  welcomed a dynamic facilitator, Julie McGrath of the Joy Source who helped focus our thoughts and energies on how to be self-empowered to live our best lives. Independence House Men's Initiative
White Ribbon Day offers a statewide framework for local programs to engage their community in the prevention of sexual and domestic violence.  For the past six years, Independence House has co-sponsored a White Ribbon Day event with the District Attorney's Office and the Yarmouth Police Department.  Each year, between 80 and 100 men come together to take the pledge: "From this day forward, I promise to be part of the solution in ending violence against women."

Independence House is organizing a Men's Initiative, which is a monthly forum for male identified individuals to promote positive masculinity, safety and health in men's lives and is grounded in our interest to keep the pledge alive from year to year. It also provides a safe place for dialogue about the issues, programs and practices that foster positive changes in men and boys, changes that counteract the social norms of showing no emotion, being in control at all times and being part of a culture that accepts sexual harassment and rape.

Independence House has taken the step to reach out specifically to men and boys in our community and ask the question, "what can be done to prevent intimate partner violence and sexual assault?" The creative thinking and commitment to this work benefits everyone in our community and beyond. By changing the dialogue around gender-based violence, Independence House is contributing to a global movement that aims at reevaluating gender roles, and finally ending the cycle of violence.

If you are interested in changing the dialogue and being part of the solution in ending violence against women, please join the Men's Initiative.  Please send your contact information to Chris Morin at [email protected].  You will receive an email as to the date and time of our planned meeting.
