And just like that the first half of 2018 is gone! This year has been a mixed bag of emotions and results. I started off the season at IRONMAN 70.3 Brazil where I had high hopes of having a great race. I ended up not being able to sleep at all while I was there and DNF’ed the race. I have never DNF a race for no reason-only one or two times because of flat tires. It was emotional and a low point for me as I thought I would win the race going into it.
From there I raced St. Anthony’s Triathlon where I still was not sleeping. Looking back now I have no idea how I even completed St. A’s because I was so run down. I drank a lot of Beet Performer and water and somehow stayed healthy. I decided to skip IRONMAN 70.3 Monterrey so I could focus on regaining energy and getting back into a routine. I also stayed in Florida to train at sea level and to be around my best friends. At this time all I wanted was to be mentally healthy and happy; therefore, I did what I needed to do and that was take a break from Boulder.
I raced Escape from Alcatraz, a big goal of mine, and I placed 3rd. Unfortunately I got a penalty at the beginning of the bike and that really changed the race for me as it was a stop and go. After Escape I came back to Boulder to swap out TREK Speed Concepts and unpack/repack. I flew back to Florida to train two more weeks for IRONMAN 70.3 Costa Rica and the NYC triathlon. I also visited my family in Charleston, SC in between races as they were a week apart.
The heat training worked and I was 1st in Costa Rica and 2nd at the NYC Triathlon. After NYC I was talking to my mom and I realized I went from Clermont, FL to San Francisco, CA to Boulder, CO to Clermont, FL to Miami, FL (stuck there on way to Costa Rica) to Charleston, SC to New York, NY and finally back to Boulder, CO in 5 weeks with 3 races!!
Needless to say I will rest and get in a solid training block before my next race in Cebu!! I did some more blood testing with Blueprint Fit once I was back so I am interested to see the results after so many weeks on the road. I will post those as soon as I get them!
My race schedule for the rest of 2018 is below, with my next race August 5 at IRONMAN 70.3 Cebu in the Philippines.
Thank you for your support!
