AC4C Retreat held June 6 & 7 in Des Moines

Thank you to Denny Becker and the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau for hosting Day 2 of our retreat.  We had many partners share updates and new information regarding their organizations / agencies.

Policy Group highl ights
  • Small group work on the marijuana logic model.  
  • Working on a white paper for the beer tax and developing Beer Tax information packet 
  • Recommendation to include a prevention specialist and a substance abuse treatment provider to the Medical CBD Board
Marketing & Communication Group highlights
  • Members received feedback on promotional materials
  • Coalition members learned about the evaluation system and creating one for their organizations
  • Developed ideas to create new promotional materials to share for recruitment
Capacity Group highlights
  • Updated coalition membership lists
  • Met with coalition members and added to mailing lists
  • Collected feedback from members for future work

IPA Goes Local Update

For the 2017 IPA Goes Local program, IPA is partnering with the Alliance of Coalitions for Change (AC4C) to present on the emerging public health crisis of opioid abuse and the role health care professionals have to help combat the trends of increasing abuse. Attendees will then discuss local strategies for collaboration and solutions to this multifaceted problem. Angie Asa-Lovstad, AC4C director, and Al Fear, a Cedar Rapids police officer, will serve as the facilitator and presenter.
 
We invite pharmacists, physicians, dentists, nurses, social work and treatment programs, law enforcement, substance abuse coalitions and interested stakeholders to attend this community focused event!
 
Remaining dates:
August 31 - Council Bluffs
September 21 - Iowa City
October 10 - Spencer

Coalition Resources

Brochures available for coalitions
It is important to get the general public up to speed on what we know regarding safety issues with marijuana and Rx drugs in particular.  AC4C has worked with state partners to produce 10,000 brochures for statewide distribution.  The funds were provided through a ODCP- JAG Diversion grant and are available upon request.  You can also download the links below to access these brochures.
